Nancy's Story
We moved to Norfolk VA, in 1964, when I was fourteen. It was an amazing place to be, Civil Rights, had not really taken hold in VA, along with religious prejudice ( on every side). The first experience I had, was someone kicking me in the leg, for drinking from a "Black" fountain. The second, was after getting up the nerve to leave the bathroom, to eat, being asked out by a nice looking football player, who said he would "Pick me up at church, what church did I go to", when I informed him I did not go to Church, he said "You mean your a Je* Bas**rd?" WELCOME TO NORFOLK!
Norfolk shaped my life. It taught me all the things I did not want to emulate, never join a sorority, (it was so harmful to so many) pick your friends wisely, be they black or white, and I learned what true love is.
I believe I left Norfolk, a better person. I was friends with some wonderful people, many of whom I would still like to find. I would love to attend the reunion, but the High School I returned to, is having there reunion a week later, and my husband and I are attending that one, and going to visit my Daughter, and son-in-law, who live in NY.
I have two children, 26 and 30, and raised my brothers oldest child, Pam. I also was lucky enough to help raise Elizabeth, a wonderful person, who's mother had committed suicide when she was seven.
I still love to ride,(although I only do it on Vacations, I have rods in my back) have 2 dogs, Akitas, and one kitten. I love to paint, sell on Ebay, (I owned clothing stores, and was a designer, when married to my first husband, that too was a learning experience). I also exercise, do yoga, scuba, and love boating and kyaking. Reading is a passion of mine...Expand for more
, along with visiting Art Museums, (I did volunteer work at one), going to plays, and volunteering for different agencies, raising money.
If anyone knows where Barbara Hecht, Robbie Finder, Carole Weisberg, or Lorraine Schwartz are, please let me know. If you are ever in the neighbor hood, please feel free to contact me before you come, I would love to see so many of you, that I have great memories of. I hope the reunion is very successful!
Hope to see you'all soon

If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have tea, pray, and mediate to be able to deal with the day-to-day.
I was a fashion designer, and owned clothing stores. I don't dress like I am still 38:)
I worked in a donut shop, cooking, stuffing, and serving donuts, at 16.
Tennis, Board of trusties of childrens school, religious organizations
I would do everything the same but I wish I had not been hit by a car while driving, in 1990
In 10 years, I hope to be here.. I'm going to get there by one never knows.
I am amazed people remember me! I have no idea how they do, I was only there for a year and a half.
I exercise, or go walking or kyaking
When I returned to my HS, they gave me forms to have my parents fill out, for there signatures. I had two friends sign instead. I was a free agent, came and went, always with a note, from "MOM" or "DAD"
God is my hero
We (my husband and I) have lived in Chicago, California, New York City, Long Island and Florida. I grew up on Long Island, but moved to VA, and then moved back to Long Island. I moved to Norfolk, because the goverment wanted to keep my father involved in "THE SPACE RACE":). My husband and I have moved, because he has wanderlust!
