Nancy's Story
I graduated from college, taught elementary school for a couple of years in WA. I did graduate work at Berkeley and then moved to Ramstein AFB in Germany where I taught on a NATO base for 2 years. I travelled Europe and Israel where my sister still lives. Then married Barry Keating from Northern Ireland (former professional soccer player). We lived in Belfast for 3 years when it was pretty dangerous. Bombs were exploding daily. Then we moved back to WA to Kennewick where Barry worked as a chaplain for the Tri-Cities chaplaincy and I taught school. A few years later we moved to Seattle where Barry was the chaplain for the three Presbyterian retirement homes for the state of WA. elped to start and became the president of a women's retreat center for protestant women involved or potentially to be involved in paramilitary activity. We offered basic maths classes, parenting skills, cooking classes and created a support network in a very dangerous area. Wonderful work and so different from teaching elementary kids. We were there a few years and then moved to Edmonds, WA where I am a teacher and Barry is a minister and is nearly finished with his doctorate degree (can't wait!!). Barry is a former president of the Irish Heritage Club in Seattle and frequently is a keynote speaker for the mass for peace during St. Patrick's Day. We have a delightful 14 year old daughter Shea. She and I just performed in the Kingsplayers production of Oklahoma at the Shorecrest performing Arts Center in Shoreline. What a lot of work!! But so much fun.
