Nancy's Story

Hi Everyone from Class of 1966 -- and grades below and above! I'm a freelance writer and right now writing the "featured house story" (happy to be making the cover these last 3 issues) and others for Home & Design Magazine here. I've also had the opportunity to write about people, like an art curator in NYC and recently a famous sculptor, Sandy Proctor, for the last issue. Writing is better than ice cream and cake to me and I love it. I graduated from the Univ. of Fla. in 1975 and worked for the Supreme Court of Florida as an "information analyst" for their first computer system in the early 80's. My husband Rick and I have been married for 30 years and have lived in Tallahassee over 25 years and raised two boys. One is a lieutenant in the Marine Corps in flight training in Pensacola; and, our 20 year old is in college. Have you seen Washington lately? Our little town is dazzling with so many lovely shops and the ante-bellum homes look like "beautiful Southern belles dressed for courting" which they are by a continuing flow of tourists. I spent last week in Washington with my mother and Elaine Snelson (Bramlett) came from Atlanta to visit. Elaine and I ran into Pee Wee Armour who shared several of his poems with us. It was one of those brief but powerful e...Expand for more
ncounters that create a lasting memory -- if you haven't read or heard (he's made a CD) any of his poems, you should and you'll be very moved by the experience. Elaine and I also visited WWHS (now an elementary school) and had a tour inside. The magic of the pep rallies -- the Tiger Band "pumping it up," the cheerleaders shaking their massive pom poms running up ahead of the Tiger team can still be felt... Gosh, that was a while back... That was in the 60's and now we're in ours...sigh. High school seemed so Big and of the greatest Importance. It was such a brief time in our lives -- about who you were in the social structure, where you received your "stamp for life" (supposedly or so it felt) as to what you were, what potential you had... We never knew the private personal struggles that held back so many to be all they could be. We've all been "grown-up" for a very long tme. I just want to say that if I ever hurt anyone's feelings in any way, I sincerely apologize and ask for your forgiveness. I hope you remember me as funny and fun. I was shy and being funny helped to kind of mask that (as well as other teenage fears). Anyway, I'd love to hear from y'all -- please send a quick note! My very best to everyone who went to WWHS!
