Nancy's Story
Dan and I will celebrate our 45th anniversary this year. We have 4 kids, 13 grands and our 2nd great coming any day now. We moved to Alaska almost 16 years ago. I retired from nursing in 2013, but was recently asked to come back and help out at my last job, so now am working on call, helping out through some transitions to the wonderful world of electronic documentation. Dan continues to work part time.
We travel a bit, usually back to Minnesota to see the family and friends, but just got back a couple of weeks ago from a trip to Australia. For Dan it was a return trip, as he had been twice while on R&R. For me, it was the first time out of the US, not counting Canada. Loved it and are planning a return trip in the future.

every turn, and weather is MUCH better than Minnesota, cooler in the summer with long days and warmer (really, usually) in the winter with long, star and northern lights filled nights.
The only down side is being so far from the family. Try as we might, they will come only for visits, not move up. Our 2 oldest grand kids did come up and live with us for a year, each graduating from high school up here and the eldest also did a year of college here. The opportunities here were far greater than they could have had in their home town schools.
Although we have been here 15 summers, I have yet to catch any salmon, though have landed some very nice halibut, which, in my opinion are the only fish worth eating. And such a joy to be out on the ocean, surrounded by the mountains!
