Nancy's Story

My Pets My cats are Missy, sixteen years old, and Tinker, fifteen years old. Missy is a very loving, quiet cat. Tinker is very friendly and quite roudy. They get along well - most of the time. My Kids I have three sons and one daughter. Two sons live close by and one about 130 miles away, in Indiana. Our daughter is in Missouri, being caregiver to a friend of hers who has a severe case of emphasima. My oldest son, Jim, works as a floor supervisor at Caterpillar Tractor Co. My youngest son, Neal, worked at the Mitsubishi Auto Plant in Normal, IL., about 5 miles from our home. This plant makes the Eclipse, Galant, Montero Sport, and several other models. His entire shift was laid off three years ago, and he now works in a plastics factory. My son Rick lives and works in Indiana. He is in charge of keeping track of inventory for repair of machinery in the Red Gold tomato products company. Jim is married to a wonderful woman who lived just two blocks from us when he was in grade school and early jr. hi. They went to different schools and did not meet until both had graduated. They have three great kids, two daughters and a son, all out of school. Many years later - - - it is now 2015. Our two cats passed away five or six years ago. We have another cat named Velvet. VERY sweet and loving. Our son Jim is Grandpa (or PAPA) to one boy in Texas and one girl in Illinois. Still at Caterpillar Tractor Co as an engineer. Rick was laid off and now works at a pizza place as well as buying and selling via E-Bay. Loves it. Neal was called back to Mitsubishi after being laid off for seven years. Hates the job but at least he HAS a job. Our daughter Rinda passed away six years ago, on the same day her fourth granddaughter was born. Such a bitter/sweet time. We now have thirteen Great-grand children. Have been to EVERY OHS class reunion. I enjoy reconnecting with classmates. Took LaDeene Slater to the reunion last year, our 60th. She passed away on March 25th, 2015, from congestive heart failure. Janice Gehring, Darlene Dayton, LaDeene and I had one chance to get together for lunch near Sea-tac Airport, after not being together for many years. I am so glad we had the chance. Hoping to spend our 60th wedding anniversary next year going whale watching on the west coast. Rinda is now divorced, and has two great kids, the oldest of our 15 grandkids. Her son is 30 and employed by State Farm Ins. Her daughter is 29, and in the Air Force Reserves stationed in Idaho. She is married to a young man from Shelton, who is also in the AF. They both work in calibration, which is not an easy job, but will pay well if they stay in that field after they leave the service. Rick has five children and two step-children. His daughter by his first marriage is the mother of my first great-grandchild. The others are in school. His wife, Tammy, is head of the Sunday School Program at their church, and Rick is a deacon. They have a wonderful Christian marriage and home. My son Neal married a nice girl from Tacoma, and brought her back to Ill. They have three daughters, ages 21, 17 and 15. I am thankful all of my kids and grandkids are healthy and happy. So much has happened in our lives since I first wrote my profile. We still have our two cats, and now have SIX great-granddaughters. The youngest was born on Oct 30, 2007. They are expecting another girl in April We celebrated our 51st anniversary on June 27th. Took a short cruise the year before for our 50th. I just returned from spending some time with my best friend from high school, LaDeene Slater. She has lived in Las Vegas for 18 years. Her youngest daughter lives there also, so I was doubly blessed. We manage to see each other every couple of years, either in LV or Olympia. She has come to Illinois to visit me a couple of times also. It is so great to still be in close touch with high school friends! I also ...Expand for more
see Darlene Dayton and Janice Gehring every couple of years. I may add more to this update in the near future. Our seventh great-granddaugher was born on April 13th. Our EIGHTH great-granddaughter is due to be born in October. One more and we will have an all-girl softball team. Our daughter Rinda passed away on the same day her fourth granddaughter was born - April 13th. She was still in Missouri caring for her friend with emphasima. She had been very ill on the Sunday before she died. Could not keep even water down. She had suffered for a long time with acid reflux, and it is thought she developed an aneurism, which probably burst, causing her to bleed to death internally. She was such a thoughtful and caring person, always helping others in need, sometimes to a fault. She took care of them and not herself. I have comfort in knowing I will see her again in heaven, as she had turned her life over to the Lord the year before she passed away. Update on Jan. 6, 2010: We lost our cat Missy a few months ago. She was 17 1/2 years old. We still have Tinker, who will be 17 this spring. Knowing he may not be in this world very much longer, we decided to get another kitten at this time so there would not be a void in our house. We adopted a rescue kitten, 11 weeks old, all black, named Velvet. We are planning to take a cruise a year from now to celebrate our 55th anniversary. Don'know where to, but I'm sure it will be in the Carribbean again. The waters there are so beautiful. The snorkling is great also. Feb. 20, 2012 Our oldest cat, Tinker, went to kitty heaven last fall. The one we adopted, Velvet, if the joy of our life here at home. She is fun and funny. Definitely a lap cat. I joined a decorative painters' society last year. Haven't done much with painting, but plan to really "get into it" very soon. Got all the supplies I need, just have to get motivated. The cruise we had planned to take for our 55th wedding anniversary did not pan out. Hoping to go whale watching in the fall, on the Washington and Oregon Coasts. With the latest news of rising gas prices, those plans might change also. We now have ten great-grandchildren - eight girls, one boy and one (?), who is due around July 15th. Two are in Texas, two still in Oregon, and the rest are close by. The (?) will be born in Maryland. One granddaughter was married in Indiana in Nov. It will probably awhile before they start a family. Here it is, January of 2016. Where has the time gone? Our 14th, 15th and 16th Great-grandchildren are due to arrive in March, April and May. Two are boys and one is ????? LaDeene Slater passed away in March of 2015 of congestive heart failure. I am SO glad I could stay with her in her retirement facility in Lacey while attending our 60 year class reunion!!! I have given up some of my activities (Red Hat queen, head of a Garden Club, and a couple of others) so I have more time to spend with friends whose lives have changed directions in the past two years, either losing their spouses or now living in nursing homes. I still have my husband, and don't like to leave him at home a lot while I "play". . My son Neal, who had been called back to Mitsubishi after being laid off for seven years, is now out of a job again because the plant closed permanently in Nov. He is so good at remodeling houses,, I imagine that is what he will do until retirement age, 15+ years from now. "Til later - - - - - - June 30, 2016 We celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary last Sun. Among those helping us celebrate were our three newest Gr-grandsons, born in March, April and May. The next is a girl, due in Sept. After our annual physicals, Jack and I are said to be in good health, for which we are very thankful. Oh - - we are experiencing the usual things that come with aging, a few aches and pains, some loss of hearing, hair, etc. But all in all, who can complain?
