Nancy's Story
Life
Hi, to all of you who were a part of my past experiences. I would love to hear from you. Reminiscing is the best part of getting older.
In case you are interested, after Ouachita Baptist College (now University), I did graduate work at UA and OU. I taught for two years at Northside High School in Fort Smith then a year at Southside High. In 1963 I married a former classmate from OU. In 1967 we moved to Denison, TX where he was employed by SCM Corp., and I taught at the high school. We had one child, a son, Chris. We had established a wonderful life in TX, when quite suddenly, Oscar,(nickname)my husband of sixteen years, developed a large intracranial annurism, and died. I stayed in Denison for two years trying to hold life together for my 12 year old son. Eventually, I returned to Fort Smith, AR where my roots were, and began teaching
Spanish and English. I had a wonderful career and wound up teaching for 40 years before retiring in 2002. In 2001 I
had a real health scare. I really didn't think I would live. I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure with
several types of lung complications. My Dr. suggested that I move to Florida for my health, so in 2003 my son and his family and I moved here to Palm Bay, FL. My heart problem is greatly improved since we moved here. I

sease of the age. Then the worst came! I was told in July 2006 that I had breast cancer. So I went through the radical surgery, reconstruction, all the treatment, etc. Praise God, this Sept. I was declared cancer free! No one would guess that I have had such a health history. God has given me strength that I never knew I had as He walks with me every step of the way.
Life is great, and I'm living and loving every
minute of it. To God Be the Glory!
School
I probably seemed shy, timid, maybe a little withdrawn to most of you, but actually, I just hadn't found myself yet. College was my real time for "discovering myself". I had real fun with my music...singing in ensembles, doing solo work, as well as singing in the choir. I discovered politics and ran for student body president and won. A friend invited me to join Future Teachers of America and I discovered that teaching can be fun and rewarding. My senior year at Ouachita I was president of the Student National Education Association. A few years later I would be the Texas Teachers Assoc. Outstanding Leader of the Year for my fourteen years as sponsor of one of the largest and most active Future Teachers of America organizations in the country. That seems so long ago. I've now retired after teaching 40 years..14
in Texas and 26 in Arkansas. Now I'm living my dreams in Palm Bay, FL on the Atlantic Ocean.
