Nancy's Story
After high school, I got married I worked at the Troy Poat Office for three years... Neither worked out so I went to GM to work in 1972. I met my husband at GM and we were married in 1978... over 32 years now. Life is good. I went to Bela's School of Cosmetology and earned licensure. I'm still licensed, but don't work at it. I went on to college in the 80's... received a business degree, and almost finished a second degree in Early Childhood Development but realized I don't want to work with little kids.. ever. I retired from GM in 2002, didn't like it and went to work as a caregiver. I loved going into homes of those who really needed me. I did meal prepart...Expand for more
ation, helped them shower and get dressed and it was very satisfying. I always wondered if I'd have made a good nurse, and I was. I lost too many of my "ladies", which broke my heart each time... so I decided that wasn't the job for me. I took a couple more years off and recently began working at the new Coach store at Great Lakes Crossing. I don't make much money doing it, but I love selling handbags. It also helps support my handbag addiction. I still work as a volunteer at the Rochester OPC Senior Center one day a week. Retirement is good, but I don't think I can ever stay home completely. I have no idea what job I'll try next, but I'll have fun doing it.
