Nancy's Story
Life
Yes, Virginia, there IS life after High School! My whole pre-adult school experience is not something that I like to think too much about. It really was excruciating for me. Although I did have a few people with whom I was close, I was bored whitless (is that even a word?) with the academic aspect of it and the social scene was one where I didn't really feel as if I fit in anywhere...not a brainiac, not a jock, just a kid who played in the band and sang in the choir.
Fortunately, after graduating early in the summer of 72, I worked very hard (2 jobs, both Dental Assisting) and went to night school at UMD and then transferred to a small college in WVA. I met my husband in June of 78 and we married in June of 87...been together ever since meeting (over 30 years now). We have 3 sons (2 from his first marriage) (the Universe knew what it was doing when it gave me boys! I'm so NOT a frilly froo-froo kind of gal), and 5 grands, 2 boys and 3 girls. Our youngest son graduated from UMD 2007, moved out to California and was married that June (on our anniversary and Father's day). I retired from my job at Montgomery College Rockville (Procurement...VERY appropriate for me) back in 1999. Contracted some whacky virus that damaged my vestibular nerve (the one that governs balance and hearing) on the left side, so now I stay in a perpetual stat...Expand for more
e of dizziness...NOT ditiziness...meds take care of the ensuing nausea and despite a bit of hearing loss on that side, I do alright for myself. My husband retired in 2006 from being a Professor of Accounting at Montgomery College after 23 years and we sold our home in Maryland (Gaithersburg) and moved to our current home right off the Rappahannock River in southeastern Virginia. We bought this beautiful piece of property back in '96 and love living on the water. We're on a protected creek right off the Rappahannock and enjoy the bounty of the water...oysters (we garden them), crabs (yummmm) and fish. Good stuff. Life is very good and I do count my many blessings each and every day. I am not aware of a pending reunion (I know Deb Dennis does a tremendous job at all the organizing of those, and if it's not Deb, forgive the error), but I believe that I would consider coming to one...I've never been, mostly because I thought no one would remember me and I would feel embarrassed and foolish. But perhaps I will. I have aged fairly well (thanks to my parents for the great genes!) and am generally a happy and contented person. I would love to hear from some of the folks that I knew and even from those I didn't. I like expanding my world. So, here's me wishing you a blessed life and an invitation to make contact through this website. Stay well.
