Nancy's Story
Life
My Pets
I had to put my last companion to sleep on July 26. Though huskies have a life expectancy of 10 years, Natasha was 15 years and seven months at the time.
Natasha was a red and white Siberian husky. She had long hair and beautiful markings. She was my second husky. Nadia was my first; she was gray and white. With my east European background, I have no trouble with finding names....
My Kids
My daughter Alexandra (Alix with an "i" for short) is a delightful young lady. She is 25. Alix graduated from Rhode Island College (RIC) in 2001 and started working for Citizens Bank as a "banker". Within 7 months, she was Assistant Manager of her branch and was #1 Banker for the 6 quarters she worked in her branch. Currently, she is a small business under-writer and received her masters in Accounting and Financial Planning in May, 2005.
My Job
I loved my job! I loved teaching, and had since I started. I had never been sorry that I changed my major from pre-med to history education when I was a junior in college. We are...Expand for more
a small suburban community of about 20-25,000. Many students are first generation Americans. The adults come from China or Italy for the most part. I completed my thirtieth year, and I knew it is time for me to retire. Many of the teachers with whom I began have retired or are retiring within the next 2-3 years. It was time to leave to allow the younger generation to begin their careers. I retired in June, 2001. Though I am not a full-time teacher, I substitute at my former high school about 1/3 of the school year; after all, I DO have a life!
Since retiring, I also volunteer time at the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence. There I do research to update their data base on the "critters" at the zoo, give talks on various animals at the zoo, give tours, staff the various biofact station and, was nvolved in a research project, observing cotton-top tamarins at the Tropical America building where they are free roaming. The RWPZ is one of the top 10 zoos in the USA!
Also, I am knitting, sewing, quilting and have a grand time!
