Nannette's Story
Life
Hi! I'm Nannette Goike Douglas. I went to Goodale Elementary in Detroit, and to Brighton High school, in Brighton, Class of 75. Then I went to O.C.C. to study accounting. I have been married for 31 years to a great guy named Dan, and we had 2 children, a daughter Sara, and a son Daniel. They are 28 & 27 now. I also have 4 grandkids that are a hoot! We own our own business, Dan's Auto Repair, Inc. in Novi, since 1986. And guess what? I do all the books and payroll there. Our daughter Sara works for us and for the Detroit Lions, as a security supervisor. She gets to go to all the super bowl games, but works long hours once she's there. She went to Madonna and has a bachelors in criminal justice. Our son, Daniel, was a marine for 4 years. He was sent to Afghanistan on Sept 20,2001 just after the towers fell. His Marine battallion was sent to take & control the Kandahar airport for our use, and he spent 48 days there, where him and his Lt. dug a 10x10 foxhole and lived in it. 8 days. They didn't shower or change clothes, but their food DID arrive twice, in the middle of the night by air drop. (Not the kind of thing a mother wants to hear, but thank God he made it back home. He does have issues and depression, because he saw a lot, but we don't discuss it any more, unless he starts the conversation. Our wonderful church family prayed for him daily and more! Then, in 2005, I had my own life issues. I found a lump that was breast cancer. I didn't want to do the chemo, but did anyway. It was as bad as they say! But, my family and my church and the doctors at Huron Valley Hospital were absolutely wonderful! They saved my life! Now I still work, although my hours are cut back, since I am still always tired. But I am still HERE! We live in Brighton now. We moved here in 97. We have 2 acres with lots of deer that visit for coffee in the morning. Actually, I have the coffee and they have carrots and apples. Please write to me if you went to any of the schools I did, and let me know about YOU!
