Naybu's Story
College
I didn't take advantage of the educational benefits afforded me when I was in the Air Force. At 19, and 20, I wasted time with school, so I ended up not finishing, nor getting close to finishing. I did try to go back to school for cosmetology which is what I did in high school, but I got real sick and I never returned to school after that. When I turned 36, I decided that it's time for me to get a degree...FOR ME!!! So, I decided to go back to school and major in what I should have majored in 20 years ago...MUSIC!!! I am currently pursuing a BA in Music at Clayton State University in Morrow, GA. I currently maintain a 3.23 GPA.
Workplace
When I moved to Atlanta, I started working in Collections at NationsBank and moved onto Corporate Bank Operations when the bank became Bank of America. I left there, and went to a couple of temp jobs with AutoLenders and Ford Motor Credit, then onto SunTrust Bank. I started in collections (commercial credit that is), then went onto credit investigations. In February 2004, I left "Corporate America" to pursue a career in entertainment. Along with the many gospel and secular artists I've worked with (Yolanda Adams, Fred Hammond, Johnny Gill, Michelle Williams, LaTosha Scott, Byron Cage, William Murphy, Darwin Hobbs, and Kirk Franklin), I started acting with Kaiser Permanente' Educational Theater Program and several small directors throughout the city. I also worked as a music teacher at a small, private Christian school in Atlanta where my wife also works as a kindergarten teacher. Because of my college schedule I needed to find something diffe...Expand for more
rent so now I am currently with Delta Airlines, working and going to school.
Military
After high school I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where I spent six of the best years of my life (I can say that now that it's over). After basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, I went to tech school in Biloxi, MS. My first permanent duty assignment was Grand Forks AFB, ND (it's cold up there!!!). Then I took my first assignment overseas at RAF Greenham Common in the United Kingdom. I was supposed to go to Ramstein AB, Germany, but like a dummy I swapped my assignment to stay in England and ended up at RAF Upper Heyford (about 30 minutes from where I was stationed). While in the Air Force, I had the opportunity to travel with a couple of entertainment showcases; Strategic Air Command (SAC) Showcase and United States Air Forces In Europe (USAFE) Showcase. With SAC I got to see the west coast of the U.S. and with USAFE, I got to see a lot of countries in Europe (Belgium, Italy, Greece, Turkey and Germany). I finally toured with the premiere entertainment showcase of the Air Force, called Tops In Blue. On that show, I was able to travel to every state in the United States (including Hawaii and Alaska), all over Europe, and our tour stopped in countries that were formerly controlled by the Soviet Union, like, Hungary, Albania, Lithuania, Latvia, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Romania, Estonia, Bulgaria, and Poland. I feel like I'm missing a couple of countries, but I'll just stop right there. A few months after my tour ended, I separated from the Air Force and moved to Atlanta.
