Neal's Story
Here is thumbnail of the last 30 years. I still can¿t believe how long it¿s been. After HS, I went to Cornell for Electrical Engineering but I found I liked programming better. In the end I stayed for a Masters in Electrical Engineering and Bachelors in Computer Science. I had co-op jobs at Xerox and DEC and really liked DEC. I started working on network cards and then moved into the PC applications group.
10 years later and I am a principal software engineer living in Nashua and engaged to Diane when things changed. Diane and I broke up, my group¿s project moved to Europe and I took up golf. s was at the same time as Windows 95 came out with free networking and FTP stop went from 40 to 7 in one month. I hung around for 9 months before I gave up and starting working for another startup.
This time it was in Cambridge (eRoom technologies) and was actually successful. We filed for an IPO just before the market crashed and had to pull the IPO. A year later we were bought by Documentum Software. A year after that Documentum was bought by EMC. I have had the same phone number for 13 years but for 3 different companies.
On the personal front, I met Lourdes while working for eRoom in 1997; we fell in love and got married on September 5, 1998. Ana Maria was born on December 4, 1999 and Neal Francis on June 3, 2001. We moved to Bedford, Ma in April, 2002 and love it.
