Neil's Story
Life
1. Graduated Weber High spring 1973
2. Started college (University of Utah) fall 1973 on NROTC scholarship
3. Midshipman cruise on USS LONG BEACH (CGN 9) summer 1974
4. Mission for LDS church, fall 1974 to fall 1976
5. Back to college, fall 1976 to spring 1979, graduated with BS in Mechanical Engineering and commission as ensign, United States Navy.
6. Active duty with USN June 1979 through May 1988 as deep sea diving and salvage officer. Assigned USS BOLSTER (ARS 38), Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 1, and USS SALVOR (ARS 52), all in Pearl Harbor HI (although spent time in Sturgeon Bay WI while SALVOR was building).
7. Married spring 1985
8. Divorced fall 1986
9. Separated from active duty May 1988, continued service in reserves to retirement in July 2007.
10. On leaving active duty, moved to RI to pursue career as consultant with several former Navy associates. Hard work being in business for yourself.
11. Return to active duty Oct 95 thru Sep 96 with Fifth Fleet HQ in Bahrain - long hours but rewarding work, relished chance to experience Middle East.
12. Back to consulting Sep 96 through Jan 99, including 16 months as diving supervisor at Bath Iron Works shipyard in Maine ...Expand for more

13. Return to active duty in Bahrain Feb thru Nov 99. Same comments as 11.
14. Back in the states, decided to get a "real" job - tired of the headaches of running own business. Wound up with Weeks Marine Inc, worked dredging projects in Baltimore and New York Jan thru Oct 2000.
15. Return to active duty with Fifth Fleet in Bahrain Nov 2000 thru Jun 2004 - same comments as 11, only more so.
16. Back at work with Weeks Marine Aug 2004 - on a marine construction project in New Jersey. Was trying to sell or rent my house in RI, find a home in NJ for me and the 5 dogs I brought home with me from Bahrain, get married, etc, but the fiance decided to leave, and I was looking to get back into work more related to salvage and/or diving.
17. So, after a lucrative, but all too brief, stint on a wreck removal/oil well capping job in the Gulf of Mexico, and some oil spill response work in the Arabian Gulf, I have landed a permanent position as an instructor at Diver's Institute of Technology in Seattle WA, moved there in late Feb 2006.
18. Got finances settled enough to buy a house here, and moved into my new home in Darrington WA Mar 2009.
