Nelda's Story
Life
This bio. note is to let those who care to see more pix, my photo album is under the John Jay HS page. After --many-- years, I finished UT grad. school in 2000 when my daughter graduated from HS.
College
It took 5 colleges/universities to reach the finish line which has been expensive when transcripts are required! That it took me as long to graduate from college as it did from high school -- 12 years.
Actually, it took longer than that to finish completely. I did get my an associate degree in 1986 from SAC. instead of going straight through college, I dropped out first because I really didn't know what I wanted to do and I found out a library degree meant going to graduate school, too. Two more years seemed endless in 1974. So...I ended up doing thing the hard way and got my education...Expand for more
in bits & pieces. That meant going back to school after I was married and was raising children. Of course, when you have to pay your own money for school, it becomes more important to you! I worked while I finished my bachelor's degree and went to night classes for the MLIS. UT had a distance program that included classes taught in San Antonio mostly through video camera. ( One was taught by a professor at SAC.) I also attended classes at UTSA, UTSA down town & UTSCA. Only one class ended being taken in Austin via a shared commute with 3 others.
Ah, I saw the construction going on for the new library school building at UT in '73/'74 & came back to campus during spring 2000. The changes were remarkable, of course, & the library school was a done deal. It certainly gave me a funny feeling.
