Nick's Story

After high school I went to El Centro to avoid being drafted. I was already interested in radio and wanted to become a disk jockey. After the lottery system was put in effect I was lucky and had a high number. I dropped out of school and began my broadcasting career in Corsicana in 1971. I also worked weekends at a new station in Dallas, KNUS 99. I worked my way up the ladder to bigger markets including Tyler, Ft. Worth, Fresno California, then finally as a disk jockey on KLIF using my middle name Nick Alexander. I moved from on the air to management and became a program director in Mobile Alabama, then returned to Dallas as production manager for WFAA Newstalk 57 and KZEW. I also was the voice of channel 8 and wrote and produced the daily radio commercial for the Dallas Morning News. Next stop, my dream job: Operation Manager of KVIL. 4 1/2 yrs later my position was eliminated after the station sold and I left radio for advertising and production which I've been doing every since. I started my own company Nick Alexander Productions in 2000. We are an advertising agency, production company I ...Expand for more
do free lance voice work and also write and produce jingles. "The next best thing to new is Dalworth Clean" "When you think mortgage think Texas Lending dot com" "Apple Orthodontix, for the Smile of your life" "K-Hovnanian Homes" "Service King Collision Repair" "When you're hot or cold think Airco, we bring comfort home" and many others. These days I work from home. We have 12 wooded acres with a 2 acre pond in Union Valley, Hunt County, about 20 miles east of Rockwall. In my spare time I am a bass singer, Show Vice President, MC and on the board of directors for the Vocal Majority Chorus. I've been with them since 1980. I've been married to my wife Barbara since 1981. In addition to being the other half of our business, her passion is dressage riding on her horse "Tippin". We have one son. Considering I barely graduated from WTW, my life has turned out pretty good! I was a late bloomer!! Late breaking news: in November I was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame. It was unfortunately the same weekend as the reunion so I had to miss it. I'll see you at the next one good Lord willing.

Over the weekend I was honored to sing bass at a memorial service for Mike Mahone. A former member of the Vocal Majority and former President of the chapter as well. And former executive with the Radio Advertising Bureau.
I hate it when that happens!! :)
