Niles's Story

Life Most of all of you knew me as Niles in high school and Boy Scouts, my friends in college starting calling me by my middle name and now everybody calls me Jason. After college, left Staunton, went to Stafford, then Fredericksburg, Virginia. I then moved to Houston in 1976 and stayed their until 1984, when I transferred to Chicago for the next 5 years. I transferred to Los Angeles in 1988 and now live near Huntington Beach (Surf City) about 4 miles from the beach. I am not leaving Southern California. In those years of traveling I have seen and spend quality time in every state except Alaska which we went to this year and Hawaii which we are going to next year. All 50 states will be done and then plan to venture abroad to my roots first, Ireland. After that, well I'll update you, but it will be all of the greatest places. 10/01/04. We went to Alaska this summer, what and experience. The last two years have been quite an experience, some of which I hope I or anybody else experience again. Today is the two year mark in remission from the back end of Stage 3 Squamous Cell Skin Cancer, border line stage 4. I can only tell you if you haven't experienced Chemo-Therapy, you don't want to ever. I can tell you that determination, faith, self-confidence, (family, friends & neighbors) support and prayer is how I beat this and got through it so far. If you believe you have beaten it mentally and emotinally from the beginning, you can. My doctor calls me his poster child and that I am a walking miracle. My wife & I have had two miscarriages in the last two years and have decided to just enjoy our 7 year old son a...Expand for more
nd travel the world. All is well and getting better. College Started out with a Liberal Arts degree wanting to be a Commercial Artist. There was no money in that field at the time. Today as a graphic or commercial artist or CAD artist it would be great. Went on later to earn BA/BS degree in business/information systems. Went on to earn Masters in Business and Information systems. Workplace I have been with my current employer in sales now for 15 years. When I started with them I was in Operations which I had been in for almost 35 years. After having been in Wholesale Distribution for over 35 years now, my job is the greatest. I am in Sales now and with an ESOP company and a 401k, I am in good hands. Life is great. 10/10/08 As of today I am now 6 years in remission from stage 3 squamous cell skin cancer and doing well. My son is now 11 years old and doing great in school. My wife graduated with her Masters in May of 2008 and is now teaching locally in Huntington Beach. I made salesman of the year in 2007 and broke the company record over a forty year period. This year is tuff though there will be no repeat. We have now been to Alaska twice and Hawaii once and plan on going back again to Hawaii this April of 2009. Well all, I am now 54 and slowing down just a bit slower after the cancer, but doing okay. It is hard to imagine or realize how things have changed since we were all young. Like be home when the street lights come on, not locking your car or front door. It was so safe back then, not now. I fear for our son many times a day with the changes that have come to pass. I hope all is well with all of you.
