Nina Cotton:

CLASS OF 1979
Detroit, MI

Nina's Story

Life Aging like fine wine is how I would describe my life right now. I have two beautiful children, daughter 27 and son 23 both college grads making mom and pop proud ( no grandchildren yet). I have been happily married 26 years this May 2008. We have accomplished two goals so far, we raised our children to be responsible adults with christian values and had our new house built. I am very satisfied with my life right now. To my fellow classmates that I have not seen since 1979, I would like to share with you some wisdom I have gathered along the way: 1. Life is not a gamble if you put your trust in God; 2. Keeping up with the JONES' will keep you in debt ( I know because I am a Deputy Clerk at the U.S Bankruptcy Court); 3. Keep your family first in all things, quality is better than quantity; 4. Don't be afraid to walk your life's journey alone sometimes, do not let negative and fearful people hold you back from going after what you want in life; and finally 5. When my mother and oldest brother passed away, I learned that there is a season for everyone in my life. Trust in God to get you through the grief and lowest times of your life, cherish the moments and memories everyday. Treat everyone the way you would want others to treat you and if they can't or won't - cut them loose and move on. Life is to short to waste on people with hidden agendas. me is the only one who knows that. My favorite teachers were Ms Thurmond, one of the biology teachers and mean old Mr. Ford my econ teacher and Mrs Rowland, an English teacher. My least favorite teacher was Ms. Lobart, one of the Math teachers, boy did I hate her class. To this date I hate Alegebra and Geometry and I don't know how I passed her classes. My other favorite teacher was Mrs. Moore, the Pep Club president, she was the one responsible for me meeting my husband, Kenneth Cotton in the 10th grade. And I won't leave out my neighbor and classemate,Tyrone Greene for daring me to be a little agressive and go after him, I love you still "Fat Daddy", you still owe me ten dollars. Workplace After having my son I was employed at Detroit Edison for 1 1/2 years as a account analyst. I left for more job security and went to the Internal Revenue Service as a Toll Free Group Secretary. I enjoyed my job there at the time, but I wanted to stay home with my son because he was 1 years old at the time. I was ready to go on unemployment for a season to stay home, but I was then offered a job at District Counsel for the IRS. I stayed there for approximately 10 years gaining parallegal experience. I recieved an offer of employment with the United States Bankruptcy Court in 1997. I have been employed there every since. I can really say that I love my job, it's not often that you can say that you get along with the majority of your co-workers and boss. I feel blessed.
