Nita's Story
Life
After high school I attended West Texas State College in Canyon, Texas. One weekend in August I met my husband to be in Olton. He was in the Army about to be sent to Germany. We wrote the 22 months he was there and I met him at the plane when he returned home.
We married 4 months later. We have made our home in around Monahans since we married, living in such exciting places as Goldsmith, Texas, Jal, N.Mex., Ft.Stockton, Texas, and Coynosa, Texas. As of October 2009,
my husband, James Lea,r and I, have been married 45 years. We are both retired, and still live in Monahans.
James retired from El Paso Natural Gas 14 years ago. He has retired from 2 other business since then, and I think just likes to keep busy. I retired from teaching (23 years) Art to 3rd and 4th graders for 21 years, the last 4 also inculded 1 class at Jr. High School daily. Prior to finishing my degree I was an aid in a Special Ed. class. After I completed my degree, my first year of teaching was in a regular 3rd grade class room, which I loved. e offered often I took it and opened up art classes for the 3 grade classes, which at that time had never had art as a class. I also taught 4th grade. Previously the art classes in this school were offered to 4th and 5th grades only.
James and I have 2 grown daughters. The oldest daughter has a B.A. in Phychology, and taught Sp. Ed. in Early Child hood for ECISD in Odessa, Tx. for 8 years. She and her husband moved to Abilene, Tx. two yeas ago. Obtaining a teaching position there is difficult, thus she looked else where for employment. She now works for a wind power company there as a materials pecurment manager. The youngest daughter has a M.A. in professional accounting and is a C.P.A. She lives with her husband(ex pro football player ) near Washington D.C., (No. Virginia). with their daughter and son. Our girls have given us 4 grand daughters and one grand son, ages 19, 16, 15, 8, and 6 years old. Last October our oldest grand daughter presented us with a great grand daughter. Which is a wonderful little present in it's self. At this point in time, my Mother is still living in a nursing home near by. We lost my Dad in Sept. of 2002. He was 91. Mother is 97.
