I was an Army Brat. My father, served in WWII, and Vietnam. Many of you that were "Brats" know the drill - From station to station we travel with our parents. Luckily, for us we did not travel as much as some of our friends. We were stationed Camp Roberts in Puerto Rico, Camp Koby in the Canal Zone, Fort Benning, then Fort Knox is where we stayed the longest. Albeit, we did a 3 + years at Fort Hood, TX; where I had the most fun. Living on an Army base did have it's good side. My memories of school were that of many Army Brats new schools new faces but everyone had their own stories and the geeks and freaks were easy to tell. Playing in the HS band, having fun with friends; playing in bars just outside of Harker Heights Texas when I was 16 and also playing at the Waco orchestra that same summer. Or making trips to Flaherty, KY for a visit to the "store". Every time you move you get a chance to build new friendships but the sad part is losing your old friends. After my first year at the University of Kentucky I was drafted and from that time I was in the Army. Time goes on and I take several courses during the day and at night; resulting a degree from Indiana University. Then I applied for OCS and then my story changed. My wife and I met at Ft Knox, KY. We were both in the military; retired in January 2005 after 35 years of service in the Army. We were assigned several times in Germany and Indianapolis. I traveled around the world to wonderful places, also some really bad locations, met many great people and My last military assignment was in the Pentagon from 1996 though 2005---yea, I know too much time there.
