Frank's Story
Life
I joined the Army right out of high school. I completed Basic Training and my Advanced Individual Training, then reported to Stuttgart, Germany in January of 1990. From there I was later deployed to Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, in the Persian Gulf. I went on to assignments at Fort Polk, LA, Fort Hood, TX, and Darmstadt, Germany. My last assignment was as a Senior Instructor at the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) Academy at Fort Dix, NJ. I left there in December of 2002 and moved to Hattiesburg, MS to take over as the Senior Personnel Services Sergeant for the 356th Quartermaster Battalion (Supply and Services). I signed into my new unit on a Friday, the following Monday I was sent on Temporary Duty to Mobile, AL for two weeks. Within seven days of my return, we were notified of our mobilization in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I was deployed for 14 months to Kuwait and Iraq.
I have spent the majority of my career in the personnel and administration arena. However, the most rewarding assignment was as an instructor at the NCO Academy. I truly loved the responsibility of helping to mold the minds and careers of the Armys future leaders.
I am certified to teach the Total Army Instructor Training Course, the Small Group Instruct...Expand for more
or Training Course, as well as the Primary Leadership Development Course and the Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Course.
I have received the Meritorious Service Medal, six Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, the National Defense Service Medal twice, the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, and the Southwest Asia Service and Kuwaiti Liberation Medals. I was also selected as the 98th Division, 6th Brigades Instructor of the Year in 2001.
I have been actively involved in the performing arts since high school. I have performed in productions such as Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Noises Off, Same Time Next Year, M.A.S.H, Guys and Dolls, and Brigadoon. I also received an Award as the Best Supporting Actor in the U.S. Army Europe Tournament of Plays in 1990 for my role in The Diary of Anne Frank.
My family is the most important thing in my life. My wife is Nicol. We have a seven year old son, David and a three year old daughter, Emily. My wifes parents now live with us in Mississippi; it has been really nice having them with us, especially with me having been deployed for 14 months.
My goal is to earn a Masters Degree in Education by the time I retire from the Army in the summer of 2011.
