Noemie's Story

I got married right after graduating on July 22, 1967 and moved to Chalmette, LA. My first son was born on December 23, 1969, second son born June 14, 1971 and third son born December 5, 1972. We moved to Denham Springs, LA New Years Eve, 1972. Those years were memorable for me but unfortunately not in a positive way. Having always wanted a daughter, the opportunity presented itself in that I was able to proceed with adopting my first cousins 18 month old little girl. I was thrilled! Sadly, just before the adoption was finalized, my worst fears were realized. My husband was not who he portrayed himself to be. Let's just say he liked men rather than women which answered a lot of questions I had for a long time. It became a very tragic situation for my children and myself, far too involved to go in to here. We endured many years pain and even all these many years later, it's still very painful considering ALL my children and I endured. BUT, life goes on and so did we. Someone came along who loved us all and became the Father to my children that they did not have and they love him as their Father. They've since grown up and have children of their own I'm proud to say and have given me SEVEN beautiful grandchildren, "6" girls and one precious little boy!!! Sometimes we face tragedies in our lives but looking at the brighter side, I have my children whom I love more than anything in this world. I'm very proud of the men, husbands and fathers they've become. Today I live with my husband of 24 years now in New Orleans. I work for an Attorney these past 7 years and as a Grandmother, I couldn't be happier. My oldest granddaughter, Asia, will be 12 come November. Then we have Sage who will be 10 soon, Caitlin who is 8, Gillian 7, Elena 5, Noah soon to be 5 and my baby, Ariana, age 3. I'm very proud of them, they are all doing really well in school, winning academic awards and on the Banner Roll each semester. If I sound like a partial Grandmother, I guess I am as all Grandmother's are. It's a new chapter in our lives we all experience as women as we make our journey through this life. It's been a long journey since High School. I've certainly been tested and educated, some things I could have well done without learning but learn I did nonetheless. In High School I was very shy! Having worked the ER window of a small town Hospital helped draw me out of my shyness. My life is not and has not been that interesting to say the least. I would like to take this time to say that my fondest memories are that of my school years and my many classmates. Because of being so shy, I never got to know many of them as I would have liked but I admired them. I remember in 6th grade being friends for a time with Beth Abney w...Expand for more
hom I've always admired and still do to this day. She had really wonderful parents. They were very kind to me and I've never forgotten their kindness. I have warm, fond memories of my years at Slidell Grammar School, now known as Brock Elementary. My teachers, Mamie Christ, Mrs. Bryan, Mrs. Coffin, America Dodson and Mr. Miller and who could forget our then Principle, Mr. Plauche and our fear of "the paddle" kept in the freezer! I remember the snowfall my third grade year. I went to Florida Avenue Elementary in 6th grade. My teacher was Mr. Cox. He took the paddle to me in front of the class for chewing gum. I was mortified! As I sit here typing this, my mind is flooded with so many fond memories of my school years along with the Teachers and classmates and friends I knew along the way. To all of you who read my story, I wish I had not been so shy so that I could have gotten to know many of you better. No matter where the future takes me, you all will remain in a very special place in my heart. I wish the "very best" to all of you. My friend, Barbara Kaye Allen, you're in my thoughts and I wish the best for your health. Nativa, thinking of you brings a smile. I've always loved your "spirit" and the kindness you've always shown me. Debe Garrett Levis whom I've long admired since our Junior High School days for the person you were (and I'm sure still are today), you've always been so kind to me. Debbie D. Crockett whom was also a good friend and a sweet person. Gee, there are just so many of you I've long since wanted to say how much I appreciate you and am so proud to have had you as my classmates and friends. I realize this is suppose to be about the journey our lives have taken since our school days but my journey I feel is not that interesting really, therefore, it's my chance to look back in time and let all of you know how much I appreciate having known you even if I didn't know each of you personally. I feel very blessed because it and just wanted to take this time to say what's been in my heart for all these years. And to my new "old friend", Becky Kennedy, I so enjoyed our long talk we had recently, sharing memories and laughter, thank you and look forward to seeing you again. NEW INFO: My husband of 25 years, Andy Moonan, collapsed on my birthday, 10/22/2009 and died at 4:21am on 10/23/2009. I have since remarried 10/17/2010 to A. Bowdre Banks, Jr, Attorney. Andy tripped and fell on a Saturday morning, 10/17/2009 and by Friday he died from a bloodclot that broke off and went to his lungs. Fortunately for me we got to spend a wonderful 25 years together. He leaves behind a son in Palm Springs, CA and a family who loved him so much. He is sorely missed! Warmest Regards, Noemie Innerarity
