Nolan's Story

If you'd like to re-connect, join me on Facebook! Life I grew up in Flanagan, Illinois. My family moved from Flanagan to Bunker Hill, Indiana in 1984 during my junior year. After graduating from Maconaquah High School, I spent time in Winona Lake, Indiana before moving to Houston, Texas in 1988. I met Dielle in 1990 and we were married after a three-month engagement. We have four children: Joshua (1991), Isaiah (1993), Esther (1995) and Naomi (1998). We've homeschooled our children from the start, and have no plans to quit. Dielle is an excellent wife and mother. She is extremely supportive of me, and labors diligently to make sure our children are well-fed and well-educated. She has a deep appreciation for fresh-cut flowers, fine china, bright, airy rooms, meals that are both delicious and nutritious, and the best of everything God's creation has to offer. She is an avid walker and health-conscious woman who loves me in spite of my liberal appetites. I am the classic sedentary male, though I don't watch television. I remain a voracious reader (always have been), and enjoy a quiet evening immersed in a good read accompanied by a glass (or two) of adult beverage and the occasional pipe or cigar. I make my own wine and mead as a hobby, and would like to find the time to start making briar pipes as a side business. We are currently living in The Woodlands, Texas, a suburban planned community just north of Houston. We would like to buy some land and establish a working farm (chickens, cows, gardening, etc.) at some point. We attend a church that is a member of the Confederation of Reformed Evangelical Churches (CREC). After much research and prayer, Dielle and I became convinced that this particular denomination provided much of what our family needs in terms of theology, church government, and community. I was ordained as a deacon in July of 2004. In the future I may consider attending seminary for the purpose of seeking a position as a teaching elder (pastor) in the Houston area. We are an active family, a...Expand for more
nd spend time hiking, camping, sailing, riding bikes, etc. The boys are classic, stereotypical males, who relish a good game of paintball or Airsoft®. The girls are the standard, garden-variety females, who cook and sew and play with dolls (though the occasional Airsoft® gun is not out of the question). College I spent one year (1986) at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana. My major was English and my minor was journalism. I enjoyed the time spent with so many good friends: Chris Burris, Patrick Humphrey, Tammy Nave, Mark Bernardo, Mitch and Susan Cariaga, Jeff Patton to name a few. While I didn't apply myself in education, I learned a lot about people and enjoyed myself immensely. Workplace After leaving Grace College, I worked a number of jobs: security guard, police dispatcher, auto parts salesman, then moved to Houston, Texas in 1988. I worked a couple dead-end jobs (telemarketing was the worst) while training as a commissioned security officer and became shift manager at the Conoco Oil World Headquarters. From there I went to work for Continental Airlines in their international cargo division. Shortly after meeting and marrying Dielle, I finally settled in to a position as a technical writer for Sperry-Sun Drilling Services in 1991. I worked there for seven years, then transferred over to DYONYX (an Information Technology outsourcing company) where I became the Communications Manager. In 2003, I left DYONYX to work as Information Manager for Plus One Mortgage, a start-up company responding to the low interest rate refinance boom. When the rates went up, the company went under, and I became a self-employed independent business consultant in late 2004. In 2005, I made another attempt in a startup as Director of Communications for Gray Hat Research Corporation, a cyber and physical security consulting company. In 2007, I returned to the "wage slave" model as a Training Instructor and Materials Developer for Hydril, an oilfield safety equipment manufacturer. Join me on Facebook to keep in touch!
