Norma's Story

Life I live in Houston, in Outpost Estates. I have three sons, Eddie III - 27, Matthew - 19 and Daniel - 16, and my nephew Jeremy Seek - 18 also lives with me. No Grandchilden that I know of. My parents have both passed away, as well as my only sister Gladys and her husband. We have a poodle mix that I inherited about 4 and a half yrs ago at the age of 12. Three cats, a 50 gal tank full of fish, and 11 Sugar Gliders. I haven't worked full time for about 7 yrs and lived on saving and a little inheritance, as my nephew has had a lot of behavior problems and I have tried to stay available during school time. I have also had a lot of papers and things to go through that my mom had accumulated over the years and tucked things inbetween things, which has kept me quite busy. My very best friend passed away last spring and so I sat down and got on the internet for the first time. I have been involve with my nephews FFA projects his Sophmore school yr, with his raising turkeys, and the nest yr, with his rabbit project. He is also in Auto Tech. I joined the Cy-Fall/Ridge FFA Booster Club and there have been a lot of projects out at AgLand, which is a property located next to Cy-Ridge HS, that a gentleman is letting the schools use for their FFA projects. Lots of work, Lots of Fund Raising, and lots to accomplish. I'm a lifetime member of the Houston Obedience Traing (HOT) Dog Club, but haven't seriously trained a dog for about 10 yrs. Something I'm hopeing to do again sometime soon, like when I get the right new dog. Like I said in my work Bio, There has been a lot of turmoil in my life for the past 6 or seven years, and I was pretty depressed there for a while, but I think things are starting to look much better now. My nephew is starting to get over some of his behavior problems or at least they seem a little better, and my youngest son Daniel (Sharpstown HS - he lives with his Dad) is in ROTC and doing very well. Daniel wants to go to A&M and is hoping for an ROTC scholarship. Workplace I got my beauticians license, worked at two different shops over a period of several months, when I developed a terribe allergy to the chemicals there. I then worked at Palais Royal in the cosmetics and wigs dept., until I was involved in an auto accident and because I couldn't make it in to work for a couple of days they handed me a pink slip. I then went on to tak...Expand for more
e a crash course in offset printing, and worked for Kwik-Kipy #50 for 25 years, first just as a printer and counter sales in office supplies, the I took over the office supply area as the shop grew and we hired more printers, the onto desktop publishihng, and graphic arts; until the second owner decided to retire and sold the shop. The idiot that bought it ran the business into the ground in a couple of mounts, and fired me when I questioned him about why a customer print order hadn't be delivered to the finishers. I then worked for Kwik-Kopy Corp. in one of the new Copy Club franchise(company) stores. I was there for about a year and a half, when the store was sold to a new franchisee. I was layed off after being asked to come in too soon after having knee surgery, from an injury I'd received while working ther; I made a really big mistake on a large job. That was in November of 1997. I ended up staying home and recouperating from the surgery. That's when my mom became really ill, and I sent the nest 3 or 4 months taking care of her, in and out of the hospital. I have done some freelance graphic arts, from time to time, but less and less as illness, and death has pleagued my familoy for the last few years including my brother in law and my only sister, and finally my Mom in 2001. I have been taking care of my sisters children after her death in 2000. and living off of what saving I had and some income form an inheritence. I have to go to work sometime in the future. Oh I almost forgot, I do work as the wedding coordinator at my church, which is not very often as our church has dwindeled down to a handful of regulars and an interem pastor. I really enjoyed working for the Kwik-Kopy in the Galeria area, for so long. Some of my customers included former Governor John Connelly, band members of ZZ Top, Dan Rather, Sen. LLoyd Benson and son Lan, and many other of the areas leading real estate developers. I met some of the most interesting people in the world traveling to Brazil, Italy, Australia, Egypt, and Chili because of the consulant and airline agencies in the builing that sent people down for me to notarize their paperwork for visa etc. I did the work on the invitation, tickets, programs and newsletters on the Lombardi Award for about 16 or 18 years for the Rotary Club of Houston. Anyway I've met a lot of interesting people and truely enjoyed my job.
