Norman's Story

I attended kindergarten and half of first grade at Duvall Elementary, Dearborn, MI. Nancy Devore and Marge Gastner were friends and neighbors. I finished 1st grade in Miami, Florida in 1955 and attended the Nescopeck Schools from 1955 until graduation in 1966. I graduated from Bloomsburg State College, cum laude, in 1971. I didn't even have my picture in the yearbook. I received an MS from Bucknell University in 2003. Retired fron Danville High School in 2003. Substitute frequently at Danville, Selinsgrove, and Lewisburg. Have lived in Selinsgrove, PA, since 1980, the year of my marriage. One daughter, Sarah, born '86, now attending Penn College in Williamsport, PA. Have one dog, Lady Sally Mae, Most Worthy & Excellent Beagle in Residence, by the grace of God, of all her territory and dominion, Sovereign, defender of the faith, etc. One wife, Lu Ann, a teacher in the Lewisburg School District. I spend a great deal of time fishing in the Susquehanna River near Selinsgrove/Sunbury. I have caught many and many bass and walleye. I have a 1988 Corvette with classic plates, very low miles, that I drive for relaxation, recreation, and when I want to go fast. It is maroon with gold accents. A Corvette is a good car to drive if on...Expand for more
e wants to go fast. I'm thinking of having a turbocharger installed so it will go faster than it does now. Then it should go really fast. I have read many and many books. I think that my education was enhanced and supplemented beyond the traditional 3R'S at the Crystal Lunch, AKA DOC'S. I learned how to put the pinball machine up on my toes to win replays, how to play the odds to win on the punchboard, and how to purchase condoms without fear of embarrassment. I won many and many games on the pinball machines. My favorite pinball machine was the one that had 3 monkeys that would advance to the top of a palm tree. A replay was awarded for each monkey that the player advanced to the top of the tree. Pinball is an excellent was to improve and practice hand-eye cordination. Doc also had a bowling machine, the kind with a heavy metal puck that one slides into the pins. The puck was much like what is used in shuffleboard. Doc would award ten candy bars for the high score of the week. Some people cheated and used their hands to get all of the pins down. They won many and many candy bars that way. Doc also had these little plastic telescopes. They really weren't telescopes. When one looked into one, a naked lady was visible.
