Norman's Story

Life I went from HHS to UCLA where I received a Bachelor degree in Physics. I was in ROTC, and went into the Air Force for three years stationed in Newfoundland as a weather forecaster (training in Southern California for forecasting in Newfoundland was a little bizarre). When I was discharged, I went to grad school at MIT in Massachusetts. After a Master's and Ph.D. in Planetary Physics, I did a one hear post-doc also at MIT. I then started a company in environmental consulting and services. We built that to roughly 800 people and $50M (that was when $50M was real money). We sold that Company and in 1985 I took over another startup with 5 or 6 people in it from MIT in videoconferencing. We built that to $500M and 2000 people. I left that one in 1992. Today I have ...Expand for more
three startups that I work on. One is trying to commercialize a radical new cancer drug. One is doing audio conferencing in the UK. And one is commercializing a process to treat sewage sludge ending up with pure water, pure CO2 in liquid form and generating a whole batch of electricity. Oh, and I also am building 74 condominiums. In my spare time, I am a Trustee at MIt and and Overseer at Boston University. I was married while I was a student at MIT. We had three boys all within 30 months (we had no money for recreation). Two of them are married and have five boys between them. One is an ER physician, one is a software engineer and one designs web sites for Fidelity Investments. They are doing well. The unmarried one was married but that did not work out.
