Norman's Story

Life After high school I got a job and my own apartment. I began attending Penn State Shenango (eventually getting my two year degree in 1982). In 1977, I married Debbie Hauck (sweet!) and we had our first child, Dan. I began working at Sears and eventually we moved to Butler. I renewed my committment to Christ and we became more involved as a family in our local church. Our second child, Ben, was born in 1982. Debbie continued her college coursework and received her bachelor's from Slippery Rock in 1986. I moved up in Sears eventually ending up in a regional job in Pittsburgh. Wanting more, I moved on to DuBois, PA and tried out things at Montgomery Ward. Dan did very well in high school especially in music. He was a district and regional band attendee and received some high honors for his excellent trumpet playing. Debbie was a long term sub for a couple of years in DuBois, but finally left teaching and entered the banking field. From DuBois, I moved with Wards to Charleroi,PA; Southfield,MI; Rome,NY and finally Utica,NY all in the capacity of store manager. Dan attended Grove City College and received his degree in History and English in 1999. Ben excelled in swimming at Holland Patent High in NY and eventually made in to the state level. His specialty was butterfly and he left an indelible mark at his high school with 9 record being set during his four years. Dan married in 1999 to another GCC grad, Eva Rogers, of Lancaster,PA. They now live in Gaithersburg, MD. Dan works at The Fund for American Studies in DC and Eva works at Sodexho in Gaithersburg...Expand for more
. Ben receive his Culinary Degree from Pennsylvania Culinary and works as a chef in the Pittsburgh area. After Wards went out of business in early 2001, I found work back in the Western PA area. Most recently, I worked at Staples, but I've recently taken up with Lowe's. Debbie is working as the Asst Manager at FNB in Prospect, PA. Over the years, many of my high school interests have continued very strongly. I still enjoy bicycling and photography for instance. Some new areas that I have branched out into are canoeing and motorcycling. I have taken many great canoe trips in western PA and upstate NY, usually with the boys or Debbie. In 2004, we bought a large touring motorcycle and Debbie and I traveled over 1300 miles one week. It is great to be back in the home area and visit the old haunts. Usually the memories are good ones. I am sorry that I missed the 25 year reunion (oldest son getting married then). Hopefully, we will meet again and be able to reminisce about choir, Guys and Dolls, Romania, or some of the great moments of Hickory High. You may remember me as an obnoxious, weird guy. In some ways, I still am. But life's experiences have tempered my personality. I enjoy life very much. God has richly blessed my with a fantastic, loving, understanding wife for 28 years. I have great relationships with both of my children. We have the best daughter-in-law anyone could ever have. I get a kick out of the things the Lord continues to teach me every day and look forward to His guidance as I face life's wandering, twisting, and often unexpected path.
