Norman's Story
After THS, I was offered a full track scholarship to Rice University, but I declined, much to my parents' chagrin. Instead, I went to Tyler Jr. College
on a 2-year basketball scholarship. I came of age as a student there, graduating summa cum laude. I then transfered to Rice in 1969 and graduated magna cum laude in 1971. I then enrolled in grad school at UT and earned my M.A. in English in 1973.

career in 1973. I coached basketball (and other sports) for 30 years and taught English and history for 38 years. My highlights included a New Mexico state championship in basketball at Clayton in 1987 and two Texas cross country state titles at Canton (near Tyler) in 1998 and 2000.
I retired from teaching in 2012, but I had already started my "encore career" as a financial advisor in 2008. My wife Juanelle (THS 1975) and I now live in Buckeye, AZ (a suburb of Phoenix).
