Nyle's Story
The summer after graduation Steve Hall and I rode 10-speeds from Provo to Alberta, Canada and back to Denver. The highlight was biking through Glacier National Park. We lost 15 lbs. each during the trip living on $2.00 a day for food. During high school I had surgery to repair ACL damage. With my diminished weight and a knee not too stable,I reasoned my football days were over. So I went a year at NAU and a second year at MCC. I hung out with Ben Davis and Steve Hall. School service kept me busy as the Chief Justice of the Student Court. I joined the speech and debate team. Bill Mosley was the big speaker on the team. Linda Psaute was also a talented competitor. She had been my last date in high school. I accepted a call to serve a mission for my church and traveled 5 hours away to Arcadia, California. It wasn't exotic or culturally divest but I remember asking God if He knew me and if He cared about what I was doing. It was near morning, when He revealed His profound love to me. The experience changed me forever. I thank Him for that and other experiences where His hand has been revealed. It was two months after returning home to Mesa that I enrolled at BYU. During my 2nd date with my mission president's daughter, I asked her to marry me. She truly is the love of my life. Her name is Robyn Melchin. She said yes and ...Expand for more
I've been a happy guy ever since. After BYU I attended law school for two years in southern California. While living in Burbak, I was called to the bishopric. As interesting as law school was, I didn't see myself practicing law and the effort was too great at the time; so I left school and began a career as a real estate investor and eventually developed two subdivisions becoming a licensed home builder in the 1980's. Robyn and I raised our 2 boys and 2 girls in Gilbert, AZ.
My oldest son, Jon, was known for his distinctive laugh and friendly personality. To him no one is a stranger. He is a talented motivational speaker. He lives in San Antonio working as director of marketing for the University of Phoenix with two great children and a most beautiful wife named Becky.
My second son, James, came big and grew even bigger and developed sprinter's speed. He played varsity football starting at my old position of fullback for four years. Yes, I'm a proud dad. He was all conference and all Arizona. He accepted an appointment to West Point and graduated in 2004. He is a Captain in the US Army. He married a beautiful and very talented girl named Karin. They have a darling girl who speaks fluent Spanish and perfect English as James and Karin speak both with ease. (I'm out of time...I'll get to my daughters later)
