Life I was born in the same town as Earnest Hemmingway not that it matters but some think it’s kind of cool. Raised in the country without the company of a lot of friends my age I became somewhat of a bookworm at an early age and a great fan of science fiction. One thing lead to another and by the time I was in my mid teens I was deep into astronomy with a telescope of my own and the world’s most solitary hobby keeping me up all night long. Science contended with hormones for a young mans attention and for the most part the science won; evidenced by the fact that I attended neither my junior or senior proms in high school. I’m sure there was a grateful mother or two somewhere who was happy that her daughter’s virtue (?) remained intact while I was busy making a study of the moon and planets. College found me preparing to study physics as a precursor to my beloved astronomy only to be sidetracked by the wanderlust which strikes many when the opportunity to get involved in the grand adventure of a real shooting war presented itself, and so it was off to join the Marines for a period of four years.
