Michael's Story
Life
Howdy Everyone,
I now live in beautiful Boise, Idaho. That's right - land of the great potato. Really though, it's God's country. There is so much to do and so little time to do it. I am married to a beautiful lady named Kim. We have no human children but we have ten, four legged ones. We have two dogs, four cats, and four horses. Yup...horses. They are such a large part our life. Kim and I ride competitively in a sport called O-Mok-See. It's an Indian term for "games on horseback" Essentially, the events are all timed with electronic timers and fastest horse wins. There are roughly 20 or so events, both individual and team. The photo I have posted is Stiker and I running "keyhole." We hold the state record for this event (plus two others). Most of our events are ran in lanes, and there are three to four lanes at most competitions. Besides the local competitions, Kim and I go to State and Nationals too. Striker (my horse) is a beautiful 14 year old bay quarter horse that I have owned since he was 5 days old. He and I have won 3 National Championships (04,05, and 06) at the Omoksee Patterned Horse Racing National Championships for the senior mens (40+) division. It's a weeklong competition that is a yearly event for us. Striker and I also won the state championship in 2000. Striker and I have quite the collection of buckles and also three National Champion saddles. We also team pen (cow work), trail ride and parade. I am currently training a 3-year old buckskin quarterhorse that is coming along great. I am president of a saddle club and Striker and I carry the Ameri...Expand for more
can flag in front of our group. Hard to believe that this city boy now has acreage, a 1-ton diesel dually truck, and a horse trailer. But, besides my wife, my horses are the love of my life and I will continue to compete until I am too old to do it because it is a wonderful family oriented sport where we have made many, many friends from all over the nation.
Professionally, I am a Physical Therapist and Rehab Manager at a skilled nursing facility in Nampa, ID (not far from Boise). Kim is also a PT and has worked with me for 4 years. You might think, working together?? It actually is great. It's nice to have a staff member who knows their job. She realizes I'm the boss at work and I realize she's the boss at home. It's a good compromise. Working with the geriatric population is like having a history lesson every day. We work with people that came out west in covered wagons, or men who fought on the beaches of Normandy. I've even worked with a fellow who actually saw the Nagasaki bomb explode when he was a POW in Japan. It's fulfilling and fun. These people still have spunk and want to get better and go home. That's what we do, get them better and send them home.
Anyway, that's the scoop with me. I'd like to here from anyone back in Carson. It's been a long time since I've been back. I think the last time I was there was thirteen years ago. Wow!! How time flies. Although, I have yet to attend a reunion, I will attend our 30th. Hope to see y'all there.
Take Care
P.S. Has anybody heard from or seen Rodger Schwecke or Robert Ramos. If so, ask them to email me. Thanks!!
