I am licensed to practice in three states including Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. I am, of course, a member of the American Institute of Architects as well as the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. My firm is a member of the US Green Building Council and I am personally a LEED Accredited Professional. I attended Young Harris College for two years obtaining my Associates Degree in Liberal Arts and then received my five year Professional Bachelor of Architecture Degree from Southern Polytechnic State University. I worked as the project architect for James W. Buckley and Associates for ten years between 1996 and 2006, after which I decided to give my own talents a try and opened Palmer Architects in the Spring of 2006; very close to the day my second daughter was born, Maggie Rose Palmer. My wife Julie has been blessed enough to give me three perfect children in all: Rebecca Ann- 11 years old, Maggie rose - 5 years old and Jake Kevin - 3 years old. I started with no money, an empty and rented office space and two boxes of mostly outdated reference books. I would not have made it two weeks without the support of my wife Julie. Within the first year we had completed so many projects that our staff increased to 12 employees. We rocked along designing hotels, restaurants, multi-family...Expand for more
housing, vet clinics etc. until that day in late 2008 when the economy tanked. Like most folks in the design industry we were hit pretty hard as the work dried up and we had to let some folks go. We certainly managed to do a few nice designs in that time, but cash flow was choking us. With the addition of several new projects over the last 6 months or so we've opened the Sudie A Fulford Learning Center at East Georgia college along with a new 200 bed student housing complex (the first on campus), a 50,000 S.F. addition to the EGC Academic Building, we were recently selected (out of the 29 firms who submitted proposals) for the upcoming renovations to Brannen Hall at Georgia Southern University (in partnership with the award winning design firm of Lord, Aeck and Sargent) and we are in the process of designing the phase two additions to Ogeechee Area Hospice; effectively doubling the size of that facility. Of course there have been, and coninue to be, many, many smaller projects in that time and we will do all we can to load pictures of as many of those projects as we possibly can. We even managed to work our way into two magazines as a featured article. Those are Echoes- the Young Harris College magazine as well we American Builders Quarterly. We will also try to post these articles for you to read. So, if your new to the firm, or just new to us, we look forward over the coming months to use this outlet to get to know you a little better. Please feel free to participate and post; and please let us know both the good and bad about or work; but more importantly about our level of personal service. If you happen to have any questions about design, construction, materials, codes, building costs, sustainable design or architecture in general, please don't hesitate to ask and I'll do my best to answer each of them.".
