Pam's Story
Life
I am 55 years old, worked to support my family for many years then returned to school and now have a BSN. I am a critical care nurse by profession, but retired early due to my health. With some concerted effort, I convinced hubby (yes, same guy for over 36 years) to move to the Big Island of Hawaii. We bought a 30 acre piece of totally undeveloped land in the rain forest on the "native" side (Hilo) on the side of the volcano. He remained in California a couple years to retire from the state teachers retirement system. I managed to build a house, clear a few fields and plant fruit trees, a garden (both doing well), a coffee field (failed miserably but will try again in the spring). I have moved from swimming pools and sports cars to a 4 wheel drive ...Expand for more
truck and a tractor and am loving every minute of it. I scuba dive avidly in my spare time. We have a couple of pigs, lots of free range chickens, two dogs and a whole herd of sheep. Learning to live the country life has been an extraordinary adventure. Hubby teaches here, special ed in a middle school, so desperately needed. I have not pursued my nursing license here, but have accepted special needs youth into our home as foster children, one at a time.
Probably more than you wanted to know but life is good here in the beautiful rain forest. Here in my 50's, it seems life has begun again.
You can see photos of my ranch and my Thailand project at freewebs-dot-com/punchat and select photo gallery. If you want to talk, I pop in and out.
Aloha, Pam
