Pamela's Story
As a few know, I and my sisters got bounced around most of our growing up life. Me, I wound up pretty much staying close to Kalispell. Left a few times, but not for long. Have 3 great kids, Frank, Tammi, and Howard. I have 7 grandkids, two live here in town with their mom, Tammi. Have been married 3 times, the first, a very bad mistake. Second time, for 23 years, and the last was for 11 years. (We remain friends!) Have 3 Chihuahuas who "guard" our home! Keep busy with a part-time job with Youth Court and enjoy the kids. Other hobbies: crafts/sewing; metal detecting; some traveling; and researching my geneology. Used to raise horses with my kids, but the second divorce stopped that....Other than that, Life's been pretty good!
MORE OF THE STORY
In 1990, I had a chance to visit England bacause my sister, Deb, was stationed there thru the Air Force. What a treat! I was there 6 wks and it wasn't enough. The history there is so thick, and I figured out to find a bookstore before anything else, so that if I missed something in that particular town, I could always read on it later. Hindsite just did not help! I would read something and then wish I could have seen it at the time we were there! If I had the means, I would go back in a heartbeat. The country is fantastic. For me, it was almost like a past-life experience..
Then, because of Deb, again, I was in Seoul, Korea in 1994. I found a job the second week I was there and stayed for 7 months. The shopping there is mind-blowing (or was at the time. They wanted our $$, but not us there). There were literally thousands of street venders and everyone wanted our attention. Deb always believed in "going native", or getting out of the mainstream where most Americans would go, and so we saw a lot of what the others didn't see. We even lived in a Korean highrise, and we were the only "whites" to be seen. The sights were amazing from our balcony. We could see vendors selling their wares (usually dried sqid, fish, or ??) in the middle of the freeway! The congestion would slow the cars down so much that the vendors weren't in too much danger). I got to watch "new" drivers (women) learn how to drive using the parking lot below us. Deb wouldn't watch because she didn't want to watch her BMW get hit if it did happen. What a circus!! One day I hear...Expand for more
d this baby crying, so I went out to see why as she would not stop. I spotted her sitting on the curb in the lot below, and no one approached her. She was only about 3 or 4, and she sat there alone for over an hour or 2. Could not believe it. Finally, an old lady went to her and took her to , where-ever. When I asked Deb why everyone had ignored her crying for so long, she stated that " it was a girl". If she had been a boy, there would have been immediate responses from every direction..
I worked in the casino of the Dragon Hill Lodge on the 8th Army base in Seoul. It was quite interesting to watch the korean women spend their American husbands' checks. And then go thru the ATM for more. Anyway, no more on that. Shopping was fantastic in Korea, so was the sights. I "found" a bunker that was still viable just around the main entrance to our apartment. Had to ask what it was, but it was from the Korean War, placed to protect the river.
I have traveled quite alot over the years. Finally got to see some of the sights of our own home state. I want to get back down to Philipsburg before winter and look around again. Everyone should, at least once, travel around Montana and see what our state has to offer. I hated History while in school, but now, I can't seem to get enough. Maybe what "woke" me up was when I started my geneology. I got curious about what was going on in the country while my ancestors were living/working. I recently realized that my paternal grandparents lived thru the Depression and the Dustbowl disaster. It was devastating for them.
I really enjoy getting my metal detector out and look around. Haven't gotten rich, bu any means, but have found some coins, a child's diamond ring (at the old Demersville school site), a portion a an old toy truck, etc. I really like getting out like that. ( Due to 2 back surgerys this past year, haven't been able to). I'm not much for hiking, unless it's with my "finder" , or a fishing pole. Later~!!
Well, it's 2015!! Got to travel to Turkey in 2013. Went with Deb to her apartment there. Gads, what history!! I walked many miles in Roman footsteps and saw the remains of an Empire. Turkey is steeped in History and the amazing thing?? They DON'T CARE!!! Check out my Facebook page for pictures. I have to POST more, or look up Alanya, Turkey. Beautiful....
