Pamela's Story
From Phoenix to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dharmsala, Osaka, Tokyo, Toronto, Halifax, Tucson, Colorado and now Scottsdale, one could say "the end of all our searching will be to arrive where we began" and NOT know the place for the first time!
Escaped from Phoenix to N. California for college, what a magic time, discovering the inner and outer edges of being. Realized my dream to visit India and study how a Tibetan refugee community were adapting to life in northern India. Cried when I had to come back to the states wished I could live my life as an expatriat. Graduated with honors in India Studies and Humanistic Psychology.
Eventually moved to the big city---San Francisco and worked as a sales rep for various natural food and vitamin companies. Met my spiritual teacher, Chogyam Trungpa, probably the most influential person in my life. Attended Vajradhatu Seminary at Lake Louise in Canada, the frozen glacial lake reflecting the quiet and brillance of mind.
Married, had a son, travelled with the both to live in Japan for a year, studied Japanese Tea Ceremony and Ikebana. Charmed by the ancient city of Kyoto, singing wooden temple floors beneath my feet and the smell of matcha (powdered green tea), watching the master archer's arrow careening thru the autumn morning air to mee...Expand for more
t it's perfect mark.
Back to Northern California marvelling over sunlit summer hillsides dotted with California Oak trees, orange poppies and purple lupines, life really is a dream and the Chardonnay doesn't hurt either.
Next the winds of fate carry us downstate to my husband's hometown Long Beach in preparation for his MBA program. Montessori preschool for my small son and back to the road hawking vitamins for me.
Onward to Phoenix ---American Graduate School of Int'l Mgmt for my husband and time with my son and parents in Phoenix for me.
Two years later we are in Santa Monica and in short order I am in grad school studying Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. After graduation we move to Toronto and on to Halifax where I open my own clinic, Morningtide Acupuncture Clinic.
Seven years later it is back to the Southwest, 100 days or less of sunshine in Northeastern Canada is too much for this west coast/southwest native. However the trip is lighter minus the husband and son who decide to stay in Halifax.
Five years in Tucson, Two in Aspen, CO and now re-creating a life in Scottsdale, building an private Acupuncture practice, as well as integrating Acupuncture into a conventional hospital environment. How the Valley of the Sun has changed in the span of my lifetime, whew!
