Pamela's Story

Life I have traveled the world as a child, I was born in Hawaii, and have lived in many places. I loved having the opportunity to travel because it shaped me into the person I am today. My father was in the military, so I was blessed to be able to visit many countries. My school years started in Macon, Georgia. My sister, brother and I intergrated Pearl Stephens Elementary School in Macon. It just recently dawned on me, that my siblings and I made history, back in the 60's. After attending Pearl Stephens for 2 1/2 years, my father got his first assignment to go overseas. We moved to Wichita Falls, Texas and I finished 3rd grade at Booker T. Washington High School. I had my mom's 3rd grade teacher! We stayed there for a short time, then we started our adventure, we moved to Okinawa, Japan. I had the pleasure to attend two years of elementary school in Okinawa, and one year of middle school. What a place to live, my adventure had come to life. After Japan, we moved to Texas for a year, and we moved to Australia for two years. Living in Australia was rough my first year, because I did not want to be there. The food there was quite different from what a spoiled, American teenager enjoyed in the '70s. My family has also traveled to many other states in our beautiful country and visited a small island in the South Pacific called Pago Pago in the Samoan Isles. I ate some of the nastiest food in New Zealand, and enjoyed the best in Japan. When we returned from Australia, we moved to Florida. I graduated from high school in Jacksonville, Florida, and attended college in Atlanta, and Savannah, Georgia. I quit college after three years and became a personal trainer. I met my future husband in 1984, but we did not get married until 1990, we moved to New York the summer of '84. New York is no joke. If you can't make it there, you can't make it anywhere, and that is the truth. He left New York soon after we arrived and I remained there to model, personal train and partY. I met some very interesting people at the clubs, and partied with Madonna (before fame) at a club called Danceteria. The place was wild. The Limelight (an old Church) was also a popular place to frequent. Tan and Frizzell were also living in New York at this time. We were roommates. Living in the Bronx! My cousin, Aaron was the D. J. for Curtis Blow, and prior to my moving in with Tan, I was living with him and his sister. Little did I know how instrumental my cousin was on the rap scene in the Bronx. After two years, of ...Expand for more
New York, I moved to San Francisco and started my own personal training company. I also returned to college and received my degree in Physical Education from San Francisco State. My husband and I had our first son in 1995 and decided to move back to Georgia to be near our families. Well here I am back in Atlanta, Georgia. It seems I have completed a full circle, after starting school in Atlanta, transferring to Savannah, and finally graduating from San Francisco State, I am back in Atlanta. I have been married for 19 years and we have two young boys (ages 14 and 8). Education seems tantamount to reaching for higher goals in life. When I was pregnant with my second son,I received my certification in Education from Clark Atlanta University. Six years later I received my Masters Degree in Adult/General Education. I just completed my third degree. In June, I will recieve a Specialist Degree with emphasis on Administration. My goal is to focus on Childhood Obesity. As a Health and Physical Education Teacher, it is important that childhood obesity be eradicated. We are the most industrialized country, but our children are eating themselves to death. I am going to create a web page dedicated to this disease. Look for it soon. I can say I have done almost everything I have wanted to do, now I must guide my children on their paths to adulthood. I would like to say it is a challenging being a parent to young children. Whew! They keep you young or you would like to think they do, because if you don't, you will feel your real age. Now I can enjoy watching my boys grow up and become productive young men, what a blessing to have two very healthy children who eat many of the weird and different foods I eat. They love Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Soul, Greek, you name it, and they will try it. I love exposing them to the different cultures in and around the Atlanta area. Georgia and the surrounding states have a rich culture that is fodder for education. I hope you who read this have lead as rich and enjoyable life as I have. I would love to hear from my fellow cohorts from my past life. If you would like to chat or e-mail me, don't be afraid to do so. I look forward to hearing from you. Hello fellow classmaters.
