Pamela's Story
After graduation, got married for the first time (then thought the only time), and started studying at a community college and working full-time. I found that this was harder than it seemed, so I quit school for a while. In 1976 my first child was born and by 1978 I was divorced. I then realized that to support my son and myself I needed to complete at least some post high school education, so I "poured" myself into my associate degrees and was able to graduate with two in a year and a half. nd had my second child and finished by B.A. degree in Accounting.
I have been volunteering with our local rescue squad for 19 years and did hold an advance life support license until recently.
I then went to work for a construction company, and an optical lenses wholesaler, until the wholesaler went bankrupt. I was able to get a job with Virginia Tech, in Blacksburg VA and have been here for 13 years. I have been able to complete two Masters Degrees while working full time - it is easier after the children have grown and left the nest.
I now have one grandchild, a little girl who is the light of my life.
