Pamela's Story

Life 25 years!! Has it really been that long?? For those who knew me when, you may remember the social aspect of my schooling always took priority over the academic :^) Thus, having turned 18 in Jan. of 82, I decided it was time to venture out into the world . . . so I took my GED and was off and running. I worked as a temp for a while, had a lot of fun and met many great people along the way. In 84, I applied to a dental office seeking an assistant. He became my mentor and over the next 2 years, taught me everything I needed to know and then some. I took my radiology course at Middlesex Community, and then sat for my boards in Boston, earning a 97 on the exam, imagine that! In my 20 year career, I enjoyed working with several doctors, general practice and periodontal, an orthodontist, but my favorite was assisting in oral surgery. I met Geoff in 87, the moment we saw each other we knew . . . love at first sight really does happen, who would have thought?!? We married in 89 and spent our first anniversary in labor, Nate arrived just after midnight; Alex followed 19 months later to complete our family circle :^) We moved to Maine in 99 and love it here! In addition to dentistry, having loved to sew since I was 9, I opened my own shop, Rose Petal Junction, specializing in bridal & formal wear, custom drapes & upholstery. Business was growing, so were the boys. Bored with the public school and the middle years upon us, we decided to home school. So in August of 03, I left the dental field to be home with my boys and further my business. Jan. of 04, the boys and I were struck from behind by a young man in a van, leaving me with significant damage to my neck and lower back, ending my seamstress career. We got through our home schooling, accelerating through 2 years worth of work in 1, Nate then entered Thornton Academy as a freshman in the fall. Alex and I continued his 8th grade year at home then he joined his brother in 05. At 11, Nate traveled to ...Expand for more
Australia and New Zealand with the People to People Student Ambassador program; always ahead of his game, Nate also skipped his junior year of HS, graduating at 16. He loves music and theater, working for a production company out of Portland; he has been a regular on the L.L. Bean summer concert series, the Wolfeboro Folk Festivals and several other venues throughout Maine and N.H. In a few years, he plans to attend Full Sail in Florida to earn his degrees in show production & touring as well as entertainment business management. Alex is an avid golfer, involved in theater, the local access TATV station and is a member of the swim team. He is also a mentor at the elementary school and has joined the Civil Air Patrol; he got to pilot his first flight last week! His favorite classes through HS have been Latin, science, history and law. Geoff was in computers for 20+ years, until a lay off sent him in a new direction. He got into real estate in 02, I joined him in 04 and we are currently working with Keller Williams Realty. In addition to his real estate, he is affiliated with a mortgage company, enjoying this far more than he ever did the computer field! I too am having fun with the real estate, which allows me the flexibility I need now with my back conditions. The suit from the accident is finally coming to fruition and depositions will begin this November. Alex is excited and wants to be there for all that will occur, he is so fascinated by the process of law! I am just ready to have some closure and move on with my life . . . My father died in 89, but my mom still lives in the same house in N. Chelmsford. I am down there more frequently these days as she is getting on in years. I think of the times spent at CHS and in driving through town, seeing all the changes, have often wondered what became of the people I once knew there. I offer my bio for any who may be curious, and in the hope that more people will write about their past 25 years as well :^)
