Pamela's Story

Well, I've lived in Houston for nearly 12 years now, since 1998 when I moved from CA after 9 years there because my daughter Julia, son-in-law Joe, and most importantly my first grandson, Nick, who was 3 at the time (now almost 15)moved here. Eric was born in 2000, the only Texan in the family. We live very near one another, 3/4 mile, and see one another not daily but nearly so. We do lots of exciting things and have a reservation at the BOTTOM of the Grand Canyon, Phantom Ranch, next July 6. Would you believe that they get 10,000 calls in 3 hours with people trying to make reservations for the following year? I was in Atlanta last July 1 and spent a couple of hours redialing and being on...Expand for more
hold before I finally secured the reservation for 2010. The two previous months I didn't even make a connection until the reservations were all taken. I teach English and am Department Chair at a high school in a Hispanic/low socio-economic area 8 miles from home. Houston has everything (including heat, humidity, and hurricanes) and is a fine place to live except for when the hurricane or its aftermath is a reality; then it is ugly. We cheer on the Astros, Rockets, and the Dynamos but could not care less about the Texans; sorry football fans. I participate in 2 book clubs and a film discussion group as well as a number of professinal organizations. It's a busy and fulfilling life.

I just reread When Zachary Beaver Came to Town. I saw it at Penny's favorite used book store in VA (where I spent $100.00 on used books for here). I had forgotten that it had won all of the highest awards for adolescent lit

Friday December 29: we spent most of the day together. Today 12-30-17 they move on to other Thailand locations while I leave Bangkok for Manila, then 12-31 to Guam, and 1-1-18 back to MAJ.
My first time as a guest at a Marshallese wedding: Fern, baby Cornelious, and John. 3-22-18. Very nice and fun. I couldn’t understand what was said but enjoyed the occasional laughter. It was a good time.
This is sweet Pati.
Well, what seems to going on here in front of the produce section at K & K? After work, I hopped out of a taxi at the Bank of Guam next door to K & K, and as I was waiting in line at the ATM, the manager at K & K requested
The Professor saying good-bye to Bonny at the airport - or so long until next year. Very successful theater season here. Several students came to say Good-bye even though the official closing of Grease was at Sunday’s cast
Lise and Pete head out for Jaluit tomorrow and then on to Kosrae and... lots of Pacific out there. Nice dinner at Tide Table tonight.
Bonny and Andrew relaxing at Tide Table after a full day of preparation for the Grease production coming up in a few weeks.
Management replaced my tiny round table with this nice 3' x 5' table. It was trashed (something hot - I think- had melted vinyl to the glass - looked yucky) but I fixed it. It is now pristine. The photos above are from an e

Eric and I on an information-rich walk along Marginal Way, Ogunquit, ME - the margin between the ocean and the land. Sue, our guide, explained a great deal including that this part of the ocean is actually the Gulf of Maine
