Pamela's Story
Aloha e, papa o 1974. (That's Hawaiian for, basically, Hey, y'all.) Yes, I'm living in beautiful Hawai`i smack dab in the middle of the Pacific Ocean on the island of Kaua`i.
Kaua`i is a small island, very laid-back and rural here, rather like Dover 45 or so years ago when I was growing up. Been here since 2007.. Our house was finally finished in 2008. We bought a kit from Bali, which was completely built there, parts labeled, disassembled, then shipped over and rebuilt like a giant puzzle. Pretty neat.
After graduation (oh, so long ago) I stayed in Dover for about 2 years and worked in various places. Moved up to Massachusetts to attend Hampshire College, an alternative school where students define their own education (within some guidelines, of course). Paul Sammak (valedictorian for class of '74) and Laurie McCloud (class of '73?) also attended.
While at Hampshire I got turned on to graphic design and got my BA with that as a concentration (major). I spent one en...Expand for more
tire year as director of the Hampshire College Folk Festival, which was basically like running a small business.
After Hampshire I worked as a designer for two years then moved to southwestern Connecticut (Stamford/Norwalk). In 1986 I was graduated from the University of Connecticut with an MBA in Marketing. In the meantime, I met my soulmate there. We were married in the summer of 1986 and lived in SW CT until 2007.
I've been learning hula and Hawaiian. Hawaiian is HARD! I'm riding horses again retraining a Quarter Horse gelding named Cruiser. (For those of you who follow rodeo, I'm using Tuf Hedaman's wife's reining horse.) UPDATE: I finally bought my own horse in 2018, a quarterhorse/draft cross from Canada. Heʻs a sweetheart, who has gone from being unhappy in a trail-ride string to learning basic dressage.
I get back to Dover occasionally to catch up with friends and relatives and to get my fix of scrapple and steamed crabs.
OK, enough for now. Me ke aloha nui.
