Pat's Story

Of course, I'm almost 64 like most of you and am retired after 20 years of teaching. I would still be teaching because I loved my students but fibromyalgia entered my life and made moderate to severe pain a daily occurance. I ended up retiring early from a job that I loved. I met my husband of 42 years here in San Antonio while he was stationed at Lackland AFB. We are a retired military family and both of us are also retired teachers and now on Social Security too. Gosh we are old! We have 5 children (4 girls and 1 boy and no, he is NOT the youngest). The oldest was born here in San Antonio--the youngest was born in Germany and the other 3 were born in Bossier City, LA while we were stationed at Barksdale AFB. Only military people and/or LA residents can pronounce Bossier--it's not BOSS ier but Bow (ribbon in hair bow) and shur. We didn't move frequently but still managed to live in Germany for 3 years and Turkey for another 3 years. I started teachin...Expand for more
g while we were in Turkey in preparation for my husband's retirement. We moved back to San Antonio in 1986 and have been here ever since except for Aug 92 - July 94 when I moved to England to teach school for the American dependents at RAF Croughton. What did I teach? If seems like what didn't I teach. I started out with a Math/Chemistry certification and taught all high school math from Pre-Alg to Pre-Calculas (bot not geometry!) and added some years of Chemistry, a year of Biology and then on to Computer Science, multimedia and web paging. We are now in the process of enjoying retirement, traveling a little, my husband has his garden and I have my computer and family history to keep me busy. Most of all, we are enjoying knowing our children as adults (after they have grown out of the "a dolt" phase and into the "adult" phase--ask me to explain some time) and enjoying meeting and loving our 17 grandchildren that we have so far. Life is good most days.
