Pat's Story

I like to think I've changed for the better since high school. My best friend these days would describe me as friendly, caring and loving, but perhaps somewhat reserved early on, which tends to make others think I might be unfriendly, but I'm not. Most folks from high school might be surprised to know that I kayak, camp, mountain bike (not in the strictist sense)and hike. I've been lucky to find a group of great, compatible friends here in Tyler who enjoy those activities as well. I love to travel and in Texas particularly enjoy the Hill Country. Lived in New Braunfels for many years. Enjoy the mountains of the western U.S. and Canada and the rolling hills of the eastern U.S. Mountains over the beach for sure. I'm a bit impulsive when it comes to travel and have a reputation for rarely going directly anywhere. Love to check out interesting looking roads and places along the way. You never know what's around the next bend. My dream trips are a wildlife cruise in Alaska, traveling by train across Canada,a winter trip to Yellowstone National Park, and returning to the Pacific Northwest to ride the ferries, bicycle the San Juan islands (maybe), go on a guided sea kayak tour and see the Orca whales breaching. Oh yes, and a motorcycle tour through the Rocky Mountains. I have two sons who are real blessings. pment with computers as a career. He enjoys mountain biking, martial arts and traveling on his motorcycle. My oldest son is studying meteorology at A&M to continue his education after the Air Force. He is a bicycle tourist and has completed three long-distance (1,800-3,500 mile) tours in the western part of the U.S. I envy him that experience. He would prefer that as a career, but alas one has to earn a living. Perhaps as a bicycle tourist/ journalist/photographer? I enjoy photography, particularly macro photography of flowers, and photographing architectural details of old buildings, such as stone carvings. I enjoy all types of music, except classical, but particularly jazz and some alternative music. And of course those oldies but goodies. Like to C&W dance, but not just listen to the music, if that makes sense. Do like Shania Twain's sassy music for doing housework! After graduation from high school and SFA, and marriage, I ultimately began a career in the legal field. A second career I might be interested in could include working with Parks & Wildlife or the Nature Conservancy if I didn't have the privilege of retiring. I have a very active, but sweet, rescue dog, Tex, who is 3/4 Husky and 1/4 German Shepherd. There's a story behind my adoption of this particular dog. Maribeth Rogers Hickman was my best friend in high school. We hung out with Mary Ann Rawlinson and all lived on the same street.
