Patrick's Story

We were a military family and moved a lot. I wound up attending four different high schools in three different states. I didn't get a chance to get to know as many classmates as I would have liked at Suitland. For those of the class of '64 I could be best remembered as a gymnast having been awarded the first (and only?) varsity letter in that sport. After graduation I enrolled at the University of Florida on a diving scholarship. After two years I dropped out and enlisted in the Air Force ultimately being stationed at MacDill AFB in Tampa. Skydiving pretty much took over my life and I logged over 2000 jumps in a fourteen year period. It was through that sport that I met my first wife - herself an active jumper and US Team alternate. I finished college and grad school at the Univ of South Florida and was then hired to be the morning meteorologist at Channel 8 (NBC TV) in Tampa. After 3 1/2 years my wife got a transfer to Washington, DC and then subsequently to Hartford, CT. We raised two overachieving daughters and had a bucolic life but the marriage fell apart after 24 years. Searching for new interests I discovered golf and wo...Expand for more
n a couple of club championships. In the late nineties I resumed skiing after a 34 year absence from the sport and also took up snowboarding. Since then, I've competed extensively as a racer and within my age group have won the National Championship once in skiing and seventeen times in snowboarding. For the past seventeen years I've overseen the NASTAR ski racing operation at Okemo Mountain in southern Vermont. In 2001 I married a fellow ski club member who teaches cross country skiing. We're blessed with four grandsons and a granddaughter.. These days I focus on pencil drawing and photography. We love to travel and made six transatlantic trips in the 12 months following COVID. Our longest trip was three months in Australia and New Zealand where we camped in the Outback, snorkled off the Great Barrier Reef, went Flyboarding (Google it) and Bungy jumping. An epic trip! Go to Youtube and search for Pat and Penny's Travel Channel to see videos. January 2023 - Just published Bad Decisions Make Great Stories (probably should have titled it Hold My Beer).. It has already sold in five countries. Available on Amazon. amzn.to/3Khxsir
