PAT's Story
Pat is from Salt Lake City, Utah but since 9/1970 has lived in Portland, Oregon. Pat's schools include Granite High School. Pat later attended Portland Community College. Pat worked at Marketing Manager for CableBus Systems Corp.; Catering/Event Manager for Embassy Suites Hotel, Greenwood Inn & Red Lion Hotel on the River. Retired, 2008.
I have (2) children; Jimmy, born 1965 & Kelly Marie, born 1969. Jimmy works in sales/marketing, is separated & has a daughter who just graduated from the honors college at Oregon State University. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with degrees in biochemistry, molecular biology & psychology, with minors in chemistry & Spanish. Whew!!! She is due to take the MCAT exams in April & will, hopefully, be off to medical school next fall. In the meantime, she is working for several doctors at OHSU. UPDATE: Bianca was awarded a full-ride scholorship to Washington U Medical school, in St. Louis, MO., where she will work on her goal of becoming either an orthopedic surgeon or a reconstructive plastics surgeon. Jimmy's son played baseball for a juior college, but had a severe injury last year & afriad baseball is now over for him. He is a senior at Oregon State U. Both kids are totally bilingual, as their mother is from El Salvador. Jimmy lives in Beaverton, Oregon (as does my daughter also), a suburb of Portland.
My daughter Kelly married her high school sweetheart right out of college. She is in education, teaching specialized reading & AVID courses to grades 6, 7 & 8 in a middle school located in Beaverton. Kelly has (3) children--the oldest (girl) graduated from Portland State University & works with special needs kids/families (Autistic). She is always looking in to programs/certification to advance her skills with th autistic--specifically with the non-verbal. Kelly's second daughter graduated in June from Oregon State University in Corvallis, in business design/management. She also spent time studying in Florence, Italy, recently got a decorator/design position at City Home in lake Oswego, Oregon. Kelly's son is a senior at the University of Oregon (yea, a Duck!), in Eugene, & will be graduating in Business Analytics in June of 2024. The two grandsons are best of friends & I think really miss each other now that they are at college in different cities.
Since retiring, I spend a lot of time volunteering at the local grade schools (when not in a pandemic, that is), & love working with the kids. I also volunteer with Habitat...Expand for more
for Humanity, Medical Teams International & also with my local parish & another parish I also attend on the Oregon coast. I love the beach--especially since I blew my knees out & my skiing days are long gone--& do spend lots of time in Seaside, Oregon. Also, my grandkids are the light of my life & I spend as much time as possible with them, as they are growing up so fast! My oldest granddaugher & I have spent some quality time together, traveling through Italy (visiting family there) & Scottland together in ate 2022. We are planning a family trip to Usseglio, Italy, to again visit family there in 2025. I was married (to another Granite classmate) for close to 30 years, but have been on my own for over 29 years now.
I spent a few weeks in April (2016) on a pilgrimage with my parish to Israel/the Holy Land. Such an amazing experience & can hardly believe I saw all the sights/history that I did. Traveled with a group totaling 29 people & the entire experience was remarkable!!! AND, will be returning to the Holy Land, plus visiting Jordan & Egypt, in October of 2023 (unfortunately that trip was cancelled due to the war breaking out). In 2019 met a cousin (from Utah) in Rome on a bit of a genealogy trip. We both had been to Italy before, but saw many new things/areas & fell in love with Lake Como. We ended our Italy trip spending time in a small village (Usseglio), 5 miles from the French border, where our maternal grandparents had immigrated from in the 1906. We stayed with a cousin there (village of 85 people) & fell in love with our cousin & the village. After our Italy trip I went on to tour Denmark, Norway & Sweden. Love to travel! UPDATE: Met my cousin from Utah once again (in 2022) & did a tour of northern Italy (Chinque Terra) starting towards the end of August. At the end of the tour my oldest granddaughter, Jessica Paris, met us & we continued on to visit our family in Usseglio (way northern Italy) again for a week, When we left Usseglio my cousin returned to the states & Jessica & I went on for a 9-day trip through Scotland. Timing was amazing, as we were in Edinburgh for all the ceremonies surrounding Queen Elizabeth's passing. Actually felt a part of history!
Also, I have been an AVID Johnny Mathis fan since the age of 12 & now try my best to get to at least 10-12 of his concerts each year. Amazed the man is still preforming--& still sounds great--at the age of 88!! SO love the man, love his music!!! Such a talented, sweet & gracious individual.
