Pat's Story

I'd have to say that I am just another old lady. After retiring from the California Department of Justice as a deputy attorney general in the criminal law division, I have been doing volunteer work. Currently, I am on the Board of Neighborhood House which administers 9 programs to help the needy including head start. I also serve on Labor Alliance which operates Employee Rights Center and I am president-CEO of Middle Class Taxpayers Association of San Diego which advises voters and elected officials about the collection and spending of our tax dollars. I am Immediate Past President of Democratic Professionals. San Bernardino High School prepared me for college, but money was tight in our family. We had immigrated to the USA under the Displaced Persons Act, speaking no English so my parents worked two jobs to provide for us. After high school graduation, I went to Valley College and UCRiverside. My BA and MA are in political science. I married, moved to San Diego so my husband could attend law school and worked for the County Welfare Department as a social worker. I had a son in 1970 and began law school in 1971. % of my class and worked for the state. Private firms were not yet hiring women in 1974. My daughter was born in 1976. She is now a veterinarian in Chula Vista. My son has an MBA from Oxford and works as a vice president at Wells Fargo Headquarters in San Francisco. I have a 5 year old granddaughter. My three siblings still live in the Inland Empire and our mother is 97 years old and continues to live in San Bernardino. I spent 10 years on the UCRiverside Alumni Board. Between that and my family, I have been a frequent visitor to the Inland Empire. You may remember me as a hard worker in school . I continued that in my career, but I also have traveled, first with my children and later alone or with friends. I have visited nearly 50 countries and all major cities in the USA. I like to dance, enjoy politics, current events, the company of my friends and trying to make the world a little more fair for everyone. I am divorced and live in Mission Hills, three miles north of downtown San Diego. I have made a good life for myself and continue to learn and grow. My best wishes to my classmates of 1962. I hope to see you at the reunion.
