Patricia's Story
I started Roosevelt in the fall of 74 with hopes of graduating. I was on the waiting list to enroll my son in the nursery, so that I could finish school. I had come from San Diego, and had been attending school out there until my parents moved to Fresno. My aunt informed us that Roosevelt High had a daycare for young mothers who wanted to finish high school. I was fortunate enough to only wait a month before I was able to start school. My son was enrolled at the nursery and while I was in classes he was in school too.Roosevelt was probably one of the first schools to initiate this program for young mothers, also giving us the opportunity to learn about our childen.We had a class in child developement, which Mrs Phillips was our teacher and I really learned alot from her. I think if it wasnt for her the nursery would have never made it that first year,she had to make sure that we didnt miss a day or else there wasnt no funding for the program. well there isnt much to my story except that I went to Roosevelt up until the day of graduation.I dont have a photo of myself. but if you have the yearbook that is shiny gold. I think it was '74' if you look at the first couple of pages in the yearbook, you will see an entire page with a young girl with a little boy,kind of looking at each other.I no longer have that yearbook. Im hoping that if anyone should have that yearbook with that picture of my son and I together, to let me know. Well thats my story and thats who I was,a young girl trying to finish school.
