Patricia's Story

April 2014 I am a Senior Library Specialist at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth (Alma Mater of LaDanian Tomlinson) AND 2010 ROSE BOWL CHAMPS. I have worked at the library for 30 years and still enjoy every minute of it. The leap from paper research to electronic research has been stimulating. College students keep me young and optimistic about the future. The incoming freshman class is smarter every year. I have 13 grandchildren ranging in age from 3 year to 26 years. My oldest granddaughter graduated from TCU in 2013 and is back to get her Masters of Accounting. She starts taking her CPA qualifying exams in 2 weeks. We are very close. My late husband (her grandad) was both mentor and confidant to her. She gave the eulogy at his funeral. She was exceptional in her eloquence. Aside from my library work I was actively involved with three committees on campus. I was Secretary for all three. Networking with staff from across campus enriched my campus life greatly. However, I stepped down when my husband became ill. I spent years moving across the country with my first husband who was in the construction industry. We settled in the San Francisco Bay area when our kids reached middle school age. We lived there for 6 years; it is a glorious place to reside. My son, Scott, still works in the city and bought a condo there. If you can afford it, San Francisco is fantastic. He and his wife, Trinity have my youngest grandbaby. Declan was born with several heart defects and had open heart surgery at 8 weeks. I am happy to report that he is doing well. With luck and technology, any future surgeries will be minimally invasive. My daughter, Patrice, was the Director of WIC for the State of Indiana but recently took a position at CSC based in Overland Park, Kansas. She is the Proje...Expand for more
ct Manager for computer systems. She is able to work remotely and she and her husband have just moved to Fort Worth. Her son, Nick, moved to Texas in 2009. He is engaged to be married in 2015. My son, Robert, retired from the Navy and moved to Midland, Texas where his wife is a CSI. Interesting work (not nearly as much cleavage as you see on TV.)They have two teenagers - Amber and Nick. I moved from San Francisco to Texas after I divorced - 1984. Fort Worth is fabulous. It's a small town with metropolitan flair. I have a 10 minute commute door to door. We have 4 world class museums with great restaurants. As one of the "ladies who lunch" these oases offer a much needed break from the TexMex diet that is clogging my arteries. I've recently explored the internet for information about Mission Hill. I am delighted to find that there is an initiative to revitalize the neighborhood. I have very fond memories of both grammar school and high school. I entertain the locals with my Catholic school tales; it seems expected. Upon reflection, I believe our childhood was simple and principled. We were taught to feel guilty (not always a bad thing) and to empathize with others. A few years ago I had the Mullin home movies transferred to DVD. Subsequent generations of Mullins can't believe that we had a marching band and a procession of priests walking down the middle of a city street every week. It's marvelous to see how many people lined the street to watch our little parades. I'm proud to be a member of the generation that fostered the movement for women's rights. I'm proud that my friends are a diverse group on all levels - age, race, religion, gender, sexual preference and political preference. Boston is always in my heart but I love the Texas sunshine that is always on my bones.
