Patricia's Story
I graduated in summer school because I was anxious to go to college. I went to UWM just like my brother and sister. I was planning on being a teacher ,but found Anthropology and Archeology much more interesting so I changed majors. I went on an archeological dig in France and Switzerland. West Allis Public Library where I stayed for 32 years, eventually becoming Head of the Children's Dept. In between I met a graduate of Custer H,S. at a singles dance got married and had 2 children. Then my husband got a job in California. We moved there and I was a Children's Librarian at La Palma and Garden Grove libraries for 11 years before we retired and moved back to Wisconsin. I have traveled to Peru, England, Scotland, France, Switzerland, Aruba, Morocco and Spain before marriage. After marriage my husband and I have been to Bahamas, Mexico, Canada, Italy, Tahiti, Egypt, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Unfortunately 5 months after I retired I had a serious stroke that affected the right side of my body. I am walking with a walker and cane but hope, with acupuncture, massage therapy, and exercise, to eventually walk on my own. I'm currently participating in stroke research at Marquette University.
