Patricia's Story
Life
My Pets
I have 7 dogs I share my life with, four of which have "compromised health". Kody, is my number one companion. He is a senior Yorkie, but still full of himself. I have had him since 2001. Fiona, aka Foo Foo, is a Yorkie Pom and was a rescue. She came into my life in October 2005. She is my "six thousand dollar" miracle girl. Long story!! Sarobi, a minature Schnauzer, came to live with me in 2006,. She has no spincter muscle due to the negligence of a breeder, but she is a happy girl! The vet clinic I use saved her life. She is adorable! Save a Yorkie Rescue in Pennsylvania allowed me to adopt a senior Yorkie, Chelsea in 2008. She came with a lot of health issues, but is still going strong. My Pomeranian, Monkey Butt, came to live with me in June of 2008. He is a handful. I am still waiting for the puppy stage to end. Shasta, a Border collie cross, was abandoned by her woner and came to live with me. When I got her, she had Lyme disease, three skin cancers, and an abcessed canine. Now, she is a robust, happy girl! June of 2011, Benji, a Beiwer Yorkie, came to share my home. His Mom was not able to care for him anymore and was sad to give him up. He is a happy boy and smiles constantly. Can you tell that I have a passion for helping animals!!
If you are looking for a pet to share your home, please consider a rescue animal. They will give you more love thatn you can imagine. I honestly feel that my dogs rescued me, I didn't rescue them.
I have managed an estate/farm in Western Albemarle county since March, 2001. We also run a not for profit animal rescue. Mirador is the base for Hope for Animals.
I am blessed with a wonderful son and daughter-inlaw, Nick and Sarah Stuart. They live about fifteen minutes west of me. They also share my passion for animals. They have two female Pit Bulls and a puppy. These are one of the sweetest breeds I have ever known. Also one of the smartest. They share their home with Simba, a cat, that somewhat rules the household. Yes, the dogs and c...Expand for more
at get along great!!
I would love to reconnect with old friends, especially back in Southwest Virginia. I still consider Pocahontas and Tazewell County God's Country.
School
My favorite teacher was Connie Harris, my English teacher in my junior year at Lee. She inspired me to be the best I could be. The only time I ever got a D in English, was when I was her student. It has been an ongoing joke with us. I tell her she was the only English teacher to ever give me a D. She tells me that "I did not give you a D, you earned it." And, she was right. After that D, I gave her 100%, at all times. Connie passed away August 10, 2006, after suffering with ALS for the past three years. She was a close and very good friend. She was also my son's Godmother. I miss her quick smile and easy laugh and her always positive attitude.
My senior year, Susie Shingleton and I were co-editors of the school magazine, The Record. Connie was the advisor. We had a great time working together, and we all learned from each other.
College
I attended BRCC right out of high school, and majored in partying and playing cards.
I took numerous classes at Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Training Center. I was a certified instructor for VCIN through the Virginia State Police, and a General Instructor through the state of Virginia.
Workplace
In 1973, I went to work for C & P Telephone Company in Staunton, as a Service Representative. I was there until 1983, when the Staunton office was relocated to Richmond, Va.
In 1985,I started a career in law enforcement as a telecommunications specialist...aka Dispatcher, first with Staunton Police Department, than with Augusta County Sheriff's Office. In 2000, I joined the Police Department as a Dispatcher at James Madison University. After 15 years with law enforcement, I thought I might need a change. So, I took a job as an Administrative Assistant at Mirador in 2001. Since than, I have become the Farm Administrator, and handle all the managerial duties of the estate.
