Patricia's Story

Chuck and I have been married for 20 years and live in Dallas, TX. No kids but have a 5 year old collie, Edie, and a 5 year old cat, Emily (we refer to them as "The Twins"). I studied computers at the State University of New York at Potsdam. It was between working for IBM and Kodak. Kodak won because I thought that IBM would be too restrictive. I worked for Kodak in Rochester for 9 years then went out to the field - first Dallas, then Atlanta, and Washington, DC. By this time I had a collie, cat, and a boyfriend who wanted to move to Hawaii. Not a poblem I had a good college friend who was living out there. LOVED Hawaii. I got a fun job as a computer consultant - travelling the islands, teaching computers at the colleges and also selling real estate. After a while, the boyfriend and I parted ways, then the dog died, and the cat died - all within 2 weeks. I really missed the dog and cat. That was a turning point in my life. I took the next few years getting it all back together and then met my husband, Chuck who was the passenger services mgr for Continental Airlines in Oahu. When his grandmother was ill, I offered to help him pay for the ticket back east. That's when I learned that he flew for free. He gave me a T shirt that said "Marry me and fly for free". We were introduced by mutual friends from the northeast. The timing was right for both of us and we hooked up. When we told the story of how we met at our wedding reception, about 20 of our friends and family took credit for our meeting. While in Oahu, I sang with the Honolulu Symphony Chorus. Loads of fun - we sang with Marni Nixon at the Waikiki Shell, at the senator's funeral, and sang at Marcos' funeral. Chuck was transfered to Houston to the main office of Continental Airlin...Expand for more
es. I was working for Texaco. We lived in The Woodlands and got our collie and cat. I made a deal with Chuck (who also grew up with collies) that I got to pick the color of the collie and he got to take the laser printer to work. That's fair. He was then offered a great job for a new upstart airline, USAfrica Airways in Viena VA. He didn't want to take me away from a good job at Texaco. No problem, I told him. I'm in IT and I can get a job anywhere so we moved to Haymarket, VA. I stayed back in Houston to sell our house in The Woodlands, TX while Chuck went to the new office in Viena, VA. When I got there in August, they asked me to work in the IT dept (2 of us) at the airline also so they paid for a trip to South Africa. I got to visit family there while I worked. Chuck got a trip also so while we were there, we took in a safari, visited Soweto and rode the Blue Train. Unfortunately the airline went bankrupt. Chuck went to work for American Airlines (by way of Valujet - bad bad airline) and we moved to Arlington, TX part of the Dallas, Fort Worth Metroplex. I tagged along on his trips to Australia, Hawaii, and was about to go to Spain but we got hit by a drunk driver head on and could not deal with a long airplane ride at that time. After working for a few companies, I got a job as a Sr. Project Manager few years back in Cargo IT and am on the board of the Fort Worth Project Mgmt Institute. We enjoy ballroom dancing, are avid sailers and I race competitively. We enjoy it here in TX but find it necessary to go back east to visit our families a few times a year and to be around Democrats. We love travelling and take advantage of the free (standby) travel. We look forward to seeing everyone at the reunion. Kindest regards, Patsy Sills Haines
