Patricia's Story

(Couldn't figure out how to get in with my original logon, sigh, so I had to make a 2nd account, this one) Hi, I'm Pat Hauldren, aka Sowders, graduated from Quinlan HS 1973, now living in Grand Prairie, TX. I'm looking for some old friends, Mary McPherson (Starks?) in particular, also from Quinlan HS. (was Pat Gregory, briefly) Attended several high schools: Quinlan, Rockwall, & Milby. Rockwall was Jr High, then a Freshman at what was then our brand new Rockwall High School. I played tuba in the band and Mr. Nash was our band teacher. (I wanted to play saxophone, but they only had an opening for tuba. That shows you how much I wanted to learn music and instruments! So I made a deal with Mr. Nash--he had to teach me every single other instrument while I was playing tuba. Blackmail LOL. Unfortunately, he didn't have time to keep his end of the bargain, and being the teenager that I was, I quit band (sad about it now) out of spite. (Now one of my bucket lists is to play an instrument again, perhaps perform in a local civic band.). My sophomore year we moved to Houston and I attended Milby High, the same school my step-father attended. Oy! It was/is old, but I enjoyed it. I was in the French Club and I remember taking art, but I guess I never made it to the Art Club cuz I'm not in the picture. My memories of high school are a bit spotty. I had Mrs. Jaimeson (sp) for French and she helped me get bit by the travel bug. I decided I would major in linguistics and study at the Sorbonne. (I never made it to France .... yet.) I had two good girlfriends at Milby but darn if I can remember their names. One was very tall, the other had transferred from a Catholic School. If you know who you are, give me a shout :) Then we moved AGAIN, this time to Quinlan. We lived on Lake Tawakoni. Back then, Quinlan had 1 HS and our graduating class was a whopping 50 students! The only class I needed to actually graduate was English 4, with Mrs. Kirkman, remember her? But because we had no extra car, I had to ride the school bus, so I took a full day of classes Sr Yr. Classes I never would have thought to take, like typing II and shorthand, which I was surprised to learn that I enjoyed. It was like learning a secret code. In fact, I got my first job in Dallas because I knew shorthand and could type (not great typer, but OK) at Linz Jewelers downtown Dallas. My Dad got a job in Dallas the last third of my Sr yr, so we moved to Dallas and I had to drive from East Dallas to Quinlan to finish school in a '65 Bonneville. (Loved that car, white with red interior and real wood paneling). I thought I was just too cool listening to KZEW on the way to school just like a grownup driving to work haha. Those were the days. LOL Then, of course, graduated. I found a job right off and learned that office work was NOT my thing. Talk about boring! And I hate to be bored. I made more money working at Jack In The Box at night, Texas Instruments during the day, and then paid my own way at Eastfield. There, an English teacher liked my writing and invited me to an invitation only writing group. I didn't realize then that it was a very special group and now I am just flabbergasted how naive (and ignorant LOL) I was then. Anyway, I got bit by the writing bug big time then (I always wrote, but never thought of it as a career). But my step-dad argued against becoming a writer. Kinda smart of him because he sure wasn't going to support me while I took 20 years to sel...Expand for more
l a book haha. But you never know. (Since then, I've attended quite a few writing workshops and retreats, learning my craft.) So I ended up married, had a son & daughter, went to tech school, the electronics program at Eastfield, loved it, and became an electronic tech who later got into quality assurance and loved that even more (I like making charts and graphs and analyzing tons of data and making sense of it, tho I'm NOT a whiz at math). I never got to finish the 2 year degree program tho because my 1st husband left while I was pregnant with my daughter and I had to scramble for work/rent/food cuz I was way too proud to go on welfare (If only I had, it would have been easier, but no, my ego still is no small thing you know.) So eventually divorced, raised 2 kids on my own for 12 years till I met current hubby, who is a doll :). My Mom said, when she met him: 1. You're going to marry him (I argued against it, I'd just met him) and 2. God gave him to me. (I guess God thought I was too dumb to find my own, after a few bad relationships, I'd sworn off men entirely LOL). Anyway, we did marry. 25 years? Don't tell him I forgot haha. He was a tech, too, now a programmer/developer type guy. He is the math genius so I guess he is the left-half of my right brain :). I don't really remember anyone from high school, esp by name, other than Earl Wayne Beeman and Mary McPherson then became Stark(s?) (both from Rockwall HS) and looking to connect with both. Hoping some pictures will jar my memories LOL. But say hi if you remember me :) but please don't be offended if I don't remember you. My HS days were quite turbulent at home and I was extremely shy and introverted. In HS, I was pretty much afraid to date. Every little thing embarrassed me LOL. Except with very close friends. And now that I'm an old fart, I miss some of those days, you know? :) Since then, I've done a bit of traveling. And I hope to do lots more. It's just that thing called money I can't quite get enough of. Something is always breaking or I'm spending it on my grandkids, whom I adore and make my life a lot of fun. I am currently writing books and short stories. My goal is to be the next NY Times Bestselling author with big book deals :). Dream big, right? I'm a nut about the science fiction and fantasy genre, having read it since the early 60s when I was still single-digits LOL. So I'm on the computer all the time and we own several. I've had a computer since 1978. That's another story. Anyway, I do have websites and stuff but I can't put them on here unless you want to go to pathauldren dot net and see what I'm doing. So the short of it is, I'm a mom of 2, grandmother of 4, enjoy (and teach) tai chi, I like to write, read, travel, do pottery and ceramics, sketch, collage, and mess around on the computer playing with Photoshop and websites. I've been married to my 2nd husband 25 years now. My house will soon be paid for yay! And I plan on doing more travel. My BFF lives in Holland so that's one of my faves and I still owe France and esp Paris a visit! Catch me on the web as "alleypat" on Twitter and Facebook and just about everywhere, SyfyDelity on tumblr. I'm a member of the DFW Writer's Workshop, North Texas Speculative Fiction Workshop, Moon Society, Artemis Society, National Space Society, Poetry of Johnson County, Texas Poetry Society. And sometimes you can catch me at a Dallas Stars hockey game. Go Stars! :). Be well and happy. Say hello :) Pat
